Can anyone tell me if a T.V. from the U.K. will work in Hua Hin.
I dont want to know, it has to have 234 menaherts, or LAPDG compatable, or any other technical B.S.
Has anyone actually brought a T.V. over to Hua Hin from the U.K. plugged it in and it worked.
Thanks
Russ
Sorry guys just realised this should probably have been posted in the Expats forum.

Most UK electrical appliances work OK. Never tried a TV but why bother? Thailand seems to have everything that the UK has in terms of TV technology at about the same price if not a little cheaper. Exactly the same models are also on sale (my mum has the same TV here that we have in our place in Hua Hin for example). Not trying to be clever - just an observation.

The only thinsg you will need is a mains adapter or better still re4wire the plug. In Thailand they use the same PAL standard as the UK. Most DVDs that you will buy in a market will have no reigon stamp so that should not be a problem here.
As for satellite you need to get a dish decorder and SIM to recieve satellite. Obviously we are way outside the footprint of the Europeand satellites but nost of our nstuf comes form a Satellite somewher over the Indian Ocean and is contolled in Thailand by UBC.

With regard to rewiring the plug, is this quite straightforward?
The Thai's only have 2 'prongs' so I guess they only have 2 wires. Which one is ditched - neutral?
Thanks

If you're refering to simple electrical plugs its quite easy. Throw away all those 2-pin sockets and get the place grounded properly, then buy the 3 pin ones with the earth core (about 200 baht each fitted - make sure you have 3 core flex too) and your days of getting a Hendrix hairstyle everytime you turn the box over are numbered!
If you can't be bothered with that, just don't use the ground cable ... 99% of Thai appliances are not grounded anyway, we wonder why they don't last very long.

Jumpin Jesus, no wonder things are a sparkin an a cracklin everytime I plug something in!
I have a few UK appliances I need to put new plugs on, but In the long term I think I'll take your advice & get the 3 pin sockets installed
Thanks

Buksi is right regarding the earth. The two symmetric pins are always live and neutral. Without bot of those the appliance simply would not work. The third if it exists is earth. An earth will only work if you have the earth circuit properly installed and the appliance is connected to the earth pins. In other words the earth connection muts continue unbroken from the appliance to the earth which in this country is usually a two meter copper rod hammered into the ground.poisoner wrote:Hey Guess,Guess wrote:The only thinsg you will need is a mains adapter or better still rewire the plug.

Three pin plugs can be purchased here and in addition to providing a facility for earth they stay in position much better. It is certainly a preferable solution to an adapter, most of which are a cheap Chinese rubbish.

They are well up with technology her. I brought a crappy old Mitsubishi phone from the UK for ten pounds and sold it here in Thailand for 1200 Baht. I sold it to a Thai girl and she actually managed to speak to her friends in Thai with it.
Smeggin' amazing eh?
