few questions related to diabetes and Thalassemia

Hi,
I have a few questions to ask related to diabetes and Thalassemia.I am hoping to get some information from all you friends out there who are coping with diabetes besides thalassemia.
How severe is the diabetes that is related to Thalassemia?
What medication do you take (if any) to bring your sugar levels down?
Do you take insulin or naturopathy medicines?
What is a advise one with diabetes (and thalassemia) has for another thal who is not yet diabetic?

I'm not diabetic but you might want to look into the area of zinc, copper and selenium deficiencies, along with iron overload, as they tend to be commonly linked to people with this kind of diabetes and selenium particulary may play a role in lessening the effects of said affliction. Research it and talk to a doc or alternative medicine professional for guidence.

Selenium is considered as one of the most exciting fields of research at the moment as it's potential benefits could be huge, especially in cancer prevention due to it's powerful antioxidant qualities. It is usually found readily in the soil and is taken up into plants and livestock but scientist are increasingly worried about soil exhaustion and the lack of selenium in over two thirds of the worlds' soil. Selenium works well in conjunction with zinc and vitamin E to promote a healthy immune system and a strong defence against free radicals, not to mention promote fertily and much more etc.

For example zinc and selenium are generally regarded by health physicians to play a role in the prevention of prostrate cancer in men and a lack of these two minerals have been found to increase risk of said cancer. There are tests that have been done to suggest that increasing your intake of selenium to about 100mcg - 200mcg a day is very benefitial to most people. It is very hard to take too much but the official upper tolerance level (max intake for normal people) is set at 400mcg a day but is not recommended, unless of course by your doctor. Don't eat too many Brazil nuts as they contain huge amounts of selenium.
