Car rental for three months?

Post by The Dude »

Does anyone know where I can rent a car for three months in Hua Hin. I just got to town and realized it would be easier to have a car then to call up for a taxi all day long. I looked on the rental sites on this website but they are all asking around 25000 baht a month. Seems really expensive. If anyone knows someone that would be great. I am looking for a four door car or suv, no truck or two door car.

Dude

You are talking about 75K Bht for a car for 3 months!!!!!

Where are you going to park it HH?

You are better off doing a deal with a taxi firm to shuttle you around. Maybe 2K a day and on call

Richard, I play golf at Springfield about 4 times a week and I leave on soi 116. As you probably know that is about 30 to 40 minutes to the course. I have two roommates so spliting a car won't be much. I spend only a couple of hours a day at home. 2000 baht a day for a car and driver would end up being about 2 to 3 times more. I will park the car at my house, golf course, restaurants outside of hua hin, by the sofitel, Hilton, temple by the main road. I have never had a problem parking in Hua Hin. Try to find parking in Boston where I am from. We are also planing on driving several times to the south of Thailand.

Hi Dude, as Richard says that adds up over 3 months, but if you want one then best prices I've got or heard of are from some of the small Thai rental set-ups in town. You can usually get a small to mid-sized 4 door saloon like Toyota Vios for 22k/month, Toyota Corolla (larger and a bit more deluxe) for 27k/month, yo can probably get that down a few grand if you guarantee 3 months and due to the lack of tourists currently. I've never understood their insurance policies exactly though, got a headache and just signed.

You'll see a lot of them along the Road from near McD's/Burger King down to the beach road around the back of the karoke strip, Poonsuk Road near City Beach Hotel, Nasdamri Road in front of the Sofitel's main entrance, amongst other places.

If you're bothered about the insurance cover, then one of the proper rental companies which it sounds like you've already looked at.

Good luck,

SJ

Probably a dumb question, but would it not be as cheap to pick up an old banger, for the period? My son-in-law has been trying to get £600 out of me for a 2nd hand car, which he reckons will provide the family with a 2nd income through taxiing - not much chance of me encouraging him by sending free money though.

I'm currently hiring a Toyota Vigo pick up (with carryboy cover) @ 800 baht a day, as I rented for a minimum of 31 days - from Budget by the Grand Hotel. I don't think you'll get what you're looking for at the price you want, but do come back here and let us know where, if you do.
