I'm not familiar with all of them. I think I would have to go with Andy Murray simply based upon the fact it has taken him a very long time to come from the depths of the rankings to being a world class player. He never gave up when it would have been so easy to do so. Pete

I think I would vote for either Jessica Ennis (won the World Heptathlon gold) or David Haye, purely because they are both in punishing disciplines that are extremely hard to get to the top in (not saying the others are easy but in comparison), as well as being less well known because of the coverage their sports get. I think almost inevitably though, that Jensen Button will win it.

It’s none of my business what people say and think of me. I am what I am and do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. It makes life so much easier.
BB can attach one if he wants, but seeing the replies so far don't think the award is of much interest to most. What could be of interest is a poll of who people think will win rather than who they want to win. Open public voting on the night should be pretty objective though, unless one camp has reps handing out 100 baht notes. Pete

Again not knowing who most are, I researched based upon WL's post and went for Ennis. However, I think one of the big names will win: Button, Giggs, Murray or Strauss. Pete

I also agree with WL when he says it's down to the amount of air time the sport gets. I went for Giggs because I think he deserves something for the many years of pleasure he's brought to the football world.
He probably deserves a lifetime achievement award rather than an annual award.
as it's sportsman of the year, i can't see why giggs is in it
yes i agree he's had a terrific career, but it's supposed to be about the last year.
i think he spent quite a fair percentage of the season on the bench, so maybe they're making up for past seasons????
my vote goes to jenson button, who i would say has to be the clear favourite to win

Giggs probably made as many appearances as Button, and also gives 100% on every appearance.
In Button's case the car won it for him. As the other teams got their cars up to spec, Button faded in to insignificance. He only had one decent race in the second half of the season - the one where he won the championship.
Having said that, I think you're probably right - using WL's logic, Button will win.

you could probably say that about every f1 champion
i still think gigg's is getting the sympathy vote, he wasn't even players player of the year at manure, nor the supporters choice either
vidic won both awards
