Life Before Mopeds

Having just watched Mrs S bugger about for 5 minutes getting the moped out of the drive to ride to the noodle stall at the end of the soi (about a 2 minute walk at Bar Girl speed - less than a minute at mine), and the last two years of seeing the bar girls at her bar borrow bikes to ride to the 7 which is about a 5 minute stroll Im left wondering.........

What the hell did Thais do before mopeds?

Were the roads then full of thais on buffalos riding to the shop?

Is there some mad bit of Thai Buddhism that states "Thou shalt not walk"?

Are flip flops some sort of luxury item you avoid wearing out at all cost?

I've wondered the exact same thing many times over!
Also, how did they live before, without cellphones?!?!

Your lucky SJ, my wife would get the bloody car out, to do the same thing

I bought her a bicycle to make short trips to get snack dishes etc, did it get used, did it hell.

Strange thing is, here in UK she will walk for miles to a restaurant.

@ the height of Mrs Sarges buggering about she would not aswer her phone to anyone especialy me so one day after phoning 5/6 times with no answer I demanded to know why not
she said she was on her moto sigh i pointed out i had already had a ruckus because she was making calls on her moto sigh and it was dangerous
Next day same again 5/6 calls no reply so when she came in i said give me your phone i placed it on the concrete wall took a hammer and placed said hammer in the middle of it she asked why i had done that so i told her the phone is no good it doesnt recieve my calls

JEEEEZ did that feel good
it cost me a few bob 2 months later but her new phone works every time now it even phones me if a single call is missed
I will buy a new hammer the old one stays where i put it into her phone just a gentle reminder

Not in the capital. Phnom Penh is loaded to the brim with motocys and they drive even worse than the Thais. Only positive thing is that they drive in the right side of the road (mostly).

Funny SM67, nothing more than sheer laziness and the face aspect, before they used to just walk but then there was no face to be gained, everyone was in the same boat. I am still sometimes gobsmacked by the indigenous attitude towards lethargy regarding such issues, beggars belief sometimes, nothing more than idleness.
