I find this is not that new as the guidelines go back to 2005, but I knew nothing about it. It indicates to forget about ventilation and increase quantity of chest compressions per minute. Good for all of us to know just in case, especially with all of us old farts round here! Pete
Worth watching. The only thing I would ignore here in Thailand is calling the 119 emergency number. A homemade rescue truck probably driven by some crazed person will show up and perhaps ask for money before transporting. No equipment, no stretcher, no medical experience, no nothing, and driving at break neck speed.
If I had to decide, use your own vehicle or that of a neighbor to transport the victim while someone continues CPR. Pete
I saw this demonstrated on TV the other and was impressed by both the simplicity of it ( having trained for years on the old combination breathe and compress method ) the point of the new method being to move the oxygen that is already in the blood around.
I had not heard of it until last week.
Considering the body-snatchers we learned about in another thread (and the general recklessness of drivers here) I agree that the best method of getting to a hospital if you need to do so is in your own car or a taxi perhaps.
And then you can also chose the hospital you want to go to.
One thing that struck me in looking at the pictures of the train wreck last week were the number of people clambering about with dark blue t-shirts and any kind of pants including flowered shorts. So . .if you have the right t-shirt, you can plunge right in? In most places this kind of rescue work would be entirely in the hands of professionals.
