its difficult to get finance unless it is under a thais name, and they should have a proper job, etc.

these guys do financing for westerners, the rate is more than standard banks but if you have to have it then give them a call and see what they can do for you.

regarding a property for that price in town, i think you will have difficulty. best to check out some of the agents in town and go from there.

good luck :)

I think the usual advice is appropriate here. The only way to do this is to come and stay in town and do the leg work yourself. Chatting to faceless cyberpersonalities does not usually prove to be a good way of casing the joint for buying a house. Get into town and start looking.

But good luck.

Falang cannot get a mortgage with a Thai bank in Thailand. Cash in your stash is what they want to see.
Some banks in S'pore will lend up to about 75% I think.

Sorry, no offence meant. And well done on doing the sensible thing. Please keep us up to date with how you get on - though not many will admit it, you can bet that everyone is interested!!

Unfortunately, Bangkok Bank Singapore Branch shut down their offshore Thai mortgage program in 2008. HSBC are still providing offshore Thai mortgage loans, but only for Premier Banking customers, and the loan tenor is capped at 7 years.

These people provide mortgages for foreigners buying Thai proerty based on taking a charge over the Thai or overseas property, but I don't like their terms and conditions much (see splitlid's post above for their local Hua Hin representative): http://www.mbmg-international.com/property.htm

Bangkok Bank offer this:
