We have been given forms at work (hotel on main road) to be completed by all car owners - apparantly for a sticker, which will stop you having to spend hours at all the checkpoints......

I think I read somewhere this week that there has also been an outside terrorist threat for this summit, so maybe that's why the extra precautions are being put in place.

Where do you go to register?

security by military for summit

Post by pinky »

Hi all. Been down to the school at the top of soi 94 - go passed the garage, the road bends to the right, school on left. Had to take blue or yellow book, passport, driving licence and log book for car and scooter. Have to go back in couple of weeks to pick up sticker for vehicle. All quite easy and wasnt there very long.. not sure if they will be doing it in the week.. was all processed in the 'rest' area under the trees. Good Luck everyone.. for once wasnt too much paper work and no fee :D

We're thinking of driving down to Hua Hin in the next couple of weeks or so (need some decent yoghurt and to touch base with some friends), but obviously not during the 'big' weekend. We'll be staying in the centre of town, but we won't have any important stickers. Will this be a problem?

If it's turning into a fortess town, would we be better off taking the train? Or should we just forget the trip?

Did anyone who actually talked to an official about this or who has actually registered their vehicle think to ask what dates this extra security (road blocks) will be in effect?

Will it only be the dates of the actual conference or will this heightened security precede the summit by some days (to keep the baddies from arriving early) and still be in effect for days afterward (in case some dignitaries stay longer)?

As usual here with any thing bureaucratic here, I'm :? :? :? due to lack of official information.

..... Before hitting "Submit" on the above message, I did a search that may answer the question. This was for Phuket when they planned to have ASEAN there so I suppose the same applies to Hua Hin... "15 Days"!

Asean meeting: Internal Security Act to be imposed for 15 days

PHUKET CITY: Phuket will for the first time fall under the Internal Security Act (ISA) when it hosts the 42nd Asean Ministerial Meeting and related activities to be held at Laguna Phuket from July 17 to 23.

Cabinet yesterday approved the strict measure for 15 days, from July 10 to 24, for an area covering the entire island and extending five kilometers offshore.

The reason is to give the government heightened powers to deal with any unrest.

By invoking the Act, the government does not need to declare a state of emergency to enforce tougher rules and regulations. An Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) panel chaired by the prime minister will also be set up.

Although it will infringe on people's basic rights for the duration, the move is aimed at boosting international confidence in Thailand."

A quick look at the calendar tells me that (if they do it the same way as mentioned in the above article) the heightened security will be in effect from the 12th of October through the 26th of October.

Sounds like a good two weeks for an out of town trip to me...

Hi Folks
I have been down to the school betwween 88 & 94 this morning....no registrations are taking place, as there is no one there.
It must have just been for Sat/Sun as previously posted.
No one could advise where/when to go next, to sort out the registration & get " your sticker"

Sorry I cannot shed anymore light on it as yet. If I hear anything else I will report back
cheers paderborn

Perhaps they can bore each other to death!

Surely can't be 2 weeks worth of anything interesting to talk about. Must stretch the national budgets for some of the countries attendees though. I wonder what the prices will do in the bar strip ??

Poetic though that it follows on from the Sep't Environment summit.

as i posted earlier stickers can be collected on the 15th oct from the school,so road blocks etc will probably start 18-20th .anyone who still needs to register maybe go and ask at police station or tessaban offices,im pretty sure they will be tighter security
than last time for the summit

security for asean summit

Post by pinky »

Was in Market Village today and they were doing the vehicle registrations for your sticker.. ground floor close to Swensens icecream near the ATM's. No queue, but not sure how long they are going to be there for??
I'd go now before the queue's start :(

I have got the paper they give today at Nabhkahart, it said

" according 21-25 Oct. 09, Huahin, Thailand is being a host of the 15th Asian Leaders Meeting. To be honor, tidy, comfort and security reasons to those Leaders who stay in Huahin on those day, all people are asked to register name and vehicle to arrange for sticker for your convenience to use as a passing in and out in Huahin town, to reduce all kind of difficulties of your own daily basis living when the meeting take place on those day.

You can register 28-29 Sep. 08.30-18.00

You can collect the sticker during 10-15 Oct. at place you register..

By the way, i went to the Nabhkahart Community at the end of Nabhkhart today, it is very convenience, may be 5 minutes.

For foreigner bring your passport and vehicle book that register your name. If your name is not on the vehicle book then please take a copy of you passport with you.

For more infor, (was writen in Thai) contact ร.อ.ธนิศร ลิ่มมั่น 081-8574449, 089 121 5677
