Thanks. The wife happened to be out here when I opened the page and I got a curled up nose and a frown. She says very bitter and indicated that she only knows about preparing it in boiling water and drinking like a tea. Pete

Er indoors takes Litozin for arthritis which she says helps quite a bit (for long term - not acute stages).
It is rose hip powder, litozine being the trade name
Not been able to get it here so have to buy it by the bucketful when we go to UK

It's easy to confuse this with another herb which grows profusely by the side of the road. The difference is the Luk Tai Bai has small seeds under the leaf and is normally found near water.

You can prepare a decoction, tincture or tea. I like the tinctures since they are more concentrated and easier to take.

Not sure your doctor can catagorically count out gout (build up of Uric acid crystals in your joints) if he hasn't run the appropriate tests. I'm going through this process now.
The degree of pain compared to friends can be misleading with gout, you get minor pains in certain joints, then might feel nothing for years and years, then some more pain, then years and years after that when the crystals have built up good and proper the real pain comes. If treated early you can prevent/slow down any future build up of crystals and avoid serious problems in the future.

But gout rant apart I'd get myself off to one of the proper Bangkok hospitals and be tested to see exactly what type of arthritis it is, so you know what the best things to take for it are, whether natural or pharmacuetical. Treating it right now can save you major problems in future years.
- An accurate diagnosis precedes appropriate treatment of arthritis. With over 100 types of arthritis, early symptoms can overlap and diagnosis can be difficult.

- Arthritis is not a single disease. Arthritis refers to a group of more than 100 rheumatic diseases and other conditions that can cause pain, stiffness and swelling in the joints.

- Early, aggressive treatment of rheumatoid arthritis can help manage the disease, and better control pain, stiffness, and fatigue.

It may well be in years to come though if you don't get it sorted now.

Good luck, SJ

I suffered from gout, on and off, as you described. It was getting to the point where the doctor wanted to prescribe colchinase (sp?) for it.

I refused the prescription and did some research.

I started taking Korean Red Ginseng (Not Russian, or US, and not white, strictly the Korean Red) and have not had any problems since (over 7 years).

I have not changed my diet, so I can only attribute it to the ginseng.

I have told 5 people I know that also suffer and it worked for 4 of the 5.

Gout is definately not fun.

Thanks Joe, you're right. The wife needs to go to Bangkok Hospital, Bangkok on a regular basis and I'll schedule myself in also. I want to see what he has to say about garlic as well. :D

Yes, all the people I know their gout was extreme, even though they were/are relatively young. One couldn't walk and one couldn't even get out of bed. One is American and simply doesn't take care of himself at all. One is Japanese who is basically a sake alcoholic and has been for years. One is originally from Mongolia and has eaten very fatty type stews all his life. It was relatively easy for the Japanese and Mongolian as they already knew why they had it and what they needed to do to help stop it.

For the Mongolian I had sent him a book years ago from Amazon.com about gout. Chinese customs tore pages out before it was delivered. I'm curious to this day what they found subversive or a threat to the state in a gout book?!

Pete.... garlic has been used for hundreds of years and even the medical profession acknowledge many of the benefits. Fortunately I just love the stuff and probably eat about a kilogram per month. I even eat plain rice with a dish of fried garlic and nothing else. I know you should really be frying it but I just love the taste. It also goes into each and every dish I cook. Perhaps that's why I've never experience any joint pain.

Funny Mr Plum mentioned fasting, because this is also something I do all the time, although I've never done it for any specific reason. For me it's simply a case of not feeling like eating. While I realize it may not be healthy, I also don't think one should always eat just because it's dinner time or whatever. When the body requires food, you'll get hungry. If you're not hungry, then why eat?

On a side note.......you should maybe also try and eat fresh mangos on a regular basis. You can research that yourself and you'll see they are loaded with goodness.

Having said all this, I'm certainly not one to comment on healthy living as I eat very little vegetables and not much fruit either. I would say my diet is and always has been more or less 75% meat. Can't be that bad though as I've never been sick enough to warrant a hospital stay, and even when I get the occasional cold, it's gone in a few days.

Flu is something I've managed to beat now  Just last month our two little ones got it and so did the wife. The minute I felt the first signs, I used some hydrogen peroxide (I think that's what they call it) by putting a few drops in my ears......SORTED :thumb: (BTW..thanks Mr Plum)
Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact
