If you have your yellow book (tabienbaan) and passport + a suitcase packed with money then you are ready for your car purchase.
You don't need a letter of residency as long as your name is in the yellow book.
The dealer will arrange the registration, insurance and taxes.
When you finally have chosen your car you''ll have a red license plate fitted for a few weeks and after that you will be informed by the dealer that your normal license plate has arrived and swop the red one with your new one.
As Norseman said, the dealer can arrange everything. Your insurance company can also do the registration along with your initial insurance policy purchase or at annual renewal time.
You can do it yourself but it's easier to pay a couple of hundred baht handling fee and let one of them do it.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Oh, all I needed to provide to my insurance company for them to do it was a copy of my passport and a copy of the car ownership book (a blue book you receive when you buy the car that tells who owns it).

Just clarifying the procedure in case I had to make a longer visa.
I guess the money talks when you buy from a dealer and registration is made easiar compared to buying second hand where more documents are needed.
Looking at the new Honda City cheap and cheefull. The Civic will have to wait! Im told dont buy from Hua Hin to shop around.

Everything I've read about getting a car registered in a Farang's name is that you need to provide the following documents:
a) Copy of passport with a Non-Immigrant visa, ie: not a tourist visa.
b) Letter from Immigration (or your Embassy) certifying your address, if you're not on a Tabien Bahn blue or yellow.
Anyone know if this is incorrect, ie: anyone registered one without a Non-Immigrant visa ??

Yes, I agree with you SJ. That is how I had to do it. However, there was a poster on here just recently that works rotation offshore, does not have a non-o visa, and reported that he had registered a vehicle in his own name--but it may have been a motorcycle.
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
If I recall correctly all I had to have (to transfer) a registration from a Thai to myself was my passport, yellow book, and the car (ownership) blue book (and money to pay the fee of course, don't remember how much it was but I remember thinking it was a rip, something like 3k baht).

Lev: Thanks for the feedback. It wont happen again!
Looks as though the registration should be straight forward even it means making the longer visa. Maybe making the Yellow Book was a good idea???
I just wandered if anyone has bought a Honda recently and if so where from??
I remember visiting the Honda dealer on the main Road going to Cha Am a few months ago. They didnt give much discout or extras....The last car we got from BKK and we were overwelmed with extras, insurance, etc
Pays to shop arround I guess and use the money as a bargaining tool.
