A tad bored!

Post by Randy Cornhole »

I know this place is akin to paradise but occasionally even paradise can get a tad tedious! Trying to occupy oneself is a task we lucky people have to face everyday.
I cycle, play squash, read, plank spank (play guitar) and surf the internet but feel I need something else to while away the idyllically sunny hours :| I fancy sailing but Hua Hin seems bereft of sailing craft?
I hate golf (yes I have tried) and don't particularly want or need to work.
How does everyone else fill their time.....? Give me some ideas please before I drink myself to death.
Oh the pain of it all.........

I wish I was so lucky, some of us have to work.

Hey, Randy, Fancy helping out at the Dog Center for a couple of hours a week? No? Well worth a try...
If anyone does fancy giving up a couple of their spare hours to us, get in touch! :D

Where do you play squash? Palm Hills?
I used to play a lot and was reasonable despite my dissolute living years ago.
If you fancy a game, get in touch, but I warn you that I'm a bit out of practice.
Depending on how well you play ( and you may be too good for this), I'm happy to go through training routines on the court.

Dawn - I'm actually scared of dogs being chased so many times whilst out cycling but will give it serious consideration.
louamart - I play squash at the Hilton and am not so good, I play mainly to try and stay in shape but am failing miserably

Dawn - I still have my heart set on living in HH, just need the job to follow. If I do, I'd gladly volunteer some time. I was mauled by a dog as a child, have a few small scars on my face to prove it, and have been scared of dogs ever since. But I try not to be these days, as I know they pick up on it. As we speak I'm typing on here with a friends gorgeous bull mastiff boxer x sitting at my feet. So I be ok.

Randy - if you are interested in doing volunteer work, I understand that the Rotary Club members have several projects in Hua Hin. I saw news blurb about their party on Hua Hin Today site not too long ago with a contact person, Khun Xan......

Dawn has the best solution.

Dogs can be vicious. Their personalities are as varied as humans. Howver if they are treated properly they will usually respond in the same manner. I am personally very friendly with an American Pit Bull Terrier who lives nest door to me. He has the most friendly natured dog that I have ever met.

He also knows who are his friends and respnds appropiately.

Some of these mut just need some attention.

Sorry Randy, didn't mean to put you on the spot. However, you couldn't expect me to miss an opportunity like someone saying they were bored, could you?
I wouldn't dream of asking anyone with a fear of dogs to help out in the center. Hails is quite right, they do pick up on it (long time, no hear, Hails! :) ) And although ours are all absolutely fine with humans, it's possible they'd play up more with someone who wasn't confident with them.
Anyone who'd like to help out without coming into contact with dogs could always do a shift in the shop, though. You can catch up on your reading, knitting (any of you guys knit?? ) etc. The shop is closed more than it's open these days, due to lack of volunteers, so I'd really appreciate the help there too. Thanks guys.

Nothing much, Hails. I've just been in there for 3 hours and sold 2 books! Could be because we've been mainly closed this week, so no-one knew we'd be open! :|
No, it's just a regular charity shop, selling second hand (or is it "vintage" these days? ) clothes, books, household goods etc. But it's a good point-of-contact for the dog center & we do actually manage to get some money in when we're open.
Basically volunteers just sit behind a desk for 3 or 4 hr shifts & take money from customers. Easy! :thumb:

Hua hin has no docking facilities and even getting a dingy in the sea requires a 4 by 4 and trailer. This was always a factor when i decided to stay in South Africa rather than relocate to the Orient. You used to be able to rent boats at a location around Big Budha beach on the north east coat of Samui but Phuket really does have good sailing facilities but ironically the wind for sailing is way better on the east coast of Thailand.

It is normally a on shore wind in Hua Hin which is good for sailing, no?
tack and jibe on the way out and fly in.
