hi den
im guessing your concerns are more to do with jellyfish, which are common in hh but think this is between may and october that are the worst
i have found the ocean in hh to be the best place for swimming in thailand,i am not sure if they have undercurrents there as i havent experienced any
maybe another bm can clarrify this
but i would say the sea is relitivley safe there
enjoy your stay
jambo

Anytime is a bad time to swim in the sea in my opinion. This is my justification.Oe wrote:Bad time to swim in the sea
1. It is full of animal excetia (some human)
2. It contains many nasty creatures such as sea snakes, jelly fish, sharks and overweight European midlle aged men who urinate and defocate in it.
3. Dog carcasses thrown overboard by dog haters.
4. Humain remains (builders mostly) thrown overboard by angry neighbours.
5. Any old shit chucked overboard by bone idle foreign fishermen.
Try a swimming pool the you only have chlorine and humane urine to worry about swallowin.

On second thoughts, don't answer that!!!
Talk is cheap
Guess is being a little facetious.
There should be no problwm with Jellyfish at that time of the year.
The water is not the crystal clear stuff but only to be expected in a closed bay. Neither myself nor my children have ever had any health problems.
The references to animal excreta are the horses which operate as pony rides on the beach - hardly a major hazard.
Jet ski riders can be inconsiderate and potentially dangerous.
The beaches at Had Sai Yai (big beach 5KM long) and Had Sai Noi (little beach 500m) are both quieter (much, much quieter) although they involve driving (15 minutes or so) and facilities i.e. beach bars are limited. Many Thai families will go to the Suan Son area which is in the middle of Had Sai Yai at the weekend, so if you want to see how the locals enjoy themselves, that's the place to go. Unlike the rest of the Had Sai Yai beach there are a number of food stalls there, catering to the locals (which of course means that it is cheap), but there is no need to feel shy, just point to what you want. There is a small charge to use the beach there 20B or something, as it is officially an army base. The rest of the beach is free.
I hope this helps.

A few years ago many of us locals would meet up on the beach at Kao Takiab on a sunday for a good drink and a game of footie against the local Thais.
As many can imagine after 3-4 large Heineken inside us for the first 10mins we went at 100mph, then the beer took hold and we used to get caned.
Went down quite recently and stayed half hour and went home, why.
They now have those Jet Skis there run by local Thais, it seemed like they really did not want anyone swimming in the water as they kept tearing around the shallows.
There were some families both Thai and farang and in the end you could see them taking their children out of the water due to these idiots, and they expected people to rent them??.
Dave posted pictures of people maimed and killed by motorcycle accidents recently, have you ever seen pics of people killed by these things, also not a nice sight.
Mike.

Dougal, thanks for the good posts, I am sure if anyone who have been to both Haad Sai Yai and Haad Sai Noi after that they want to go back again because there are nice beaches and a very good for relaxing and comfortable,
Guess, sharks is too far from the beach so don’t worry,
People are very dangerous so what I think is -those animals in the sea will not attack anyone without reason they do attack some time as they do protect themselves, but people are go in the sea to casting them that is why they are now scares and they have to fight as they think they fight to live alive and to make people get away from them place…(some of you might think why I think that is what animal think, I’m not one of the sea animal but I guess)
Right now many people are making business on the beach as well - those business included those Jet Skis and is very dangerous much!!! more than those animals in the sea what people think they will attack, and how many times those stuff have kills the animals in the sea,,,,yeh its bad and dangerous to people and animals…. INNIT?

Hey Oe, you haven't been to Wales recently have you? You appear to be picking up a valleys dialect!Oe wrote:…. INNIT?

Also totally agree with TTM's comments about Jet Ski's at Khao Takiab - they are a menace and it is definitely not safe to swim there when one of those things is around as they are totally oblivious to bathers and come right in to the shallows - TOSSERS!!
