Agreed SJ - it really is 'sods law' that these noisy bars will pull in the punters. Maybe just during tourist season granted - but some bar owners are happy with that and never consider, or need, the expat trade which they see as not worthwhile.
I think there are 3 ways to go with a bar in LOS. Either sports (TV footie, pool, darts etc.) or the big Tourist thing, or somewhere inbetween and quieter for the expats and older tourists.
Poolsuk has gone down the Tourist trap route. But contrary to what News believes, London Bar and P&Ps weren't there before Lucky Lukes. In fact they are relative newcomers by comparison. LL's has been there for at least 9 years. Maybe more. OK under different managements over the years, but has always had issues of one sort or another. At one point it was thought to have been the main cause of a clampdown on closing times in that area, with consideration for the monks being cited as the reason. Similarly the outdoor eateries were also tidied up and controlled using the Wat as a reason.
Quite how the present owner of LLs gets away with it is a mystery, given the history of Poolsuk. But also, given the history of LLs, maybe he isn't the owner at all. Just thinks he is

Saying that, I do still enjoy a good night club but as there are none here in HH, I can't be arsed going all the way to Bangkok. In fact, if I really want to go to a good club, I'd have to head back to Aberdeen

I sympathise entirely my old chum, but as I keep repeating here time and again, AMY owns and runs P&P. Im her english speaking and listening ear, THATS ALL.

So if you have a comment, say it to her. I have passed it on in this case. Im doing my damndest to have her manage the place better, but you try managing a bar full of Issan girls. I admire her for trying where Id have sacked the lot a long time ago and run it as a beer only bar with a few freelancers in.

Personally I hate loud music when Im trying to drink and chat. It pisses me off, and gives the plod more resons to screw bar owners for bribes. However, in terms of volumes what does happen is one bar plays their music blisteringly loud, that leaks into the next bar, who turn their music up to compensate....and so on and so on. Sit in any bar on Poolsuk from 7pm on and you will see the audio mexican waves run up and down the street.

There are about 200 bars in HH within easy crawling distance of one another. Do what I do and take your custom to the ones where the people BUYING the beer make the decisions as to music and its volume, whats on TV, etc.... not the ones selling it.

I'm with you here, I mostly just head down the road in my moo baan and have a cool one (on ice) at the local shop. The owners are a nice couple, they put out a few chairs and tables in front. Makes for a great local. Cheap and cheerful!

Holland. He wouldn't be able to do the same, he's not a DJ and his 'music' is teenagers stuff, not of drinking age stuff.

Unfortunately it works though as they are one of the busiest, I put that down to the girls dancing and bouncing around rather than sitting on chairs.
Same same the Hilton, a crime against music, but about the busiest farang/Thai mixed nightspot in HH.

It's purely the location plus those great tablesoutside that make it busy. I personally think the guy is a bit of a tool he never plays more than 1 minute of a song before he changes it. I find that very irritating. Overall though I don't mind the bar and have been known to dance there till late. I prefer Martins bar next door though much more local friendly.

You say about the Hilton being the busiest I think if you go people per square millimetre then it has to be Ting bar that place rocks.

80% girls 10% Men and 10% Katoy plus a great atmosphere after the other bars close.

I like P&P bar it is definately one of the friendliest down that stretch and the girls are ore than happy to give you plenty of attention or leave you alone. Up to you as they so like to say

This is no joke: I know a British man, who found the music in the bar too loud and, pissed off, demolished the whole equipment. Now he is in jail, and because he overstayed his visa, will be deported to Britain.

True, that part of Poo;suk Road has never been the same since Wij left the London Lounge. The new landlord upped the volume and before long it became all out war with the Family Bar turning it nuclear when they got a new 150,000 Baht audio system.
I must admit that I patronize the smaller bar scatterered around the outskirts of the town centre when you're welcomed as a friend rather than a walking ATM. The 'block' these days nearly all seem to just cater for the tourist trade with no thought at all at targeting the potential of regular income from the residents - Little wonder so many of the bars are virtually deserted most evenings.

I think Martin in Lazy daze has it pretty well covered with music and conversation it's loud enough so you don't hear the joker next door but i find you can always have a good conversation in there. There is also a good mix of Locals(regulars) and tourists (when they are in town)

I'd agree with that - in fact Poolsuk is only really enjoyable these days when you're 3 sheets to the wind and acting like you're on holiday!

I remember seeing the actual owner of the properties when she used to call in to see Jim Verigen in Hogs Breath back in 2001. a very imposing lady who would arrive weighted down with gold necklaces and bracelets accompagnied by two bodyguards in a large black limosine.
As I recall she owned Hogs Breath i and Lucky Luke I in Bangkok resulting in our two bars becoming Hogs Breath 2 and Lucky Luke 2.
Another one opened in Bangkok then we had Hogs Breath 4 for a while just round the corner in Bintabaht - That didm't last long becoming first the Banana Bar, I think, then eventually Happy Bar (?)

You have to go to Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia or Alabama (and some other parts of the south) to see real ones... and you'll hear way more Lynyrd Skynyrd, Alman Brothers, Creedance, Charlie Daniels, Marshall Tucker, Little Feat, and ZZ Top there than you will ABBA!
