Most laws are there to rein in the few that spoil it for the many. Sometimes the law IS an ass. The nanny state is legislating EVERY thing we do.

I have never caused an accident and never mown down any children in the street and drive appropriately for the conditions and the performance of the car or bike. I know the stopping distances and do maintain a safe gap, even when other drivers cut in. I have 4 children and am very alert to the possibility of a child running out. It's part of 'common sense' roadcraft. I've also taken advanced driving courses. Well worth it IMO. :thumb:

The main reason why accidents happen is people don't pay enough attention and don't drive appropriately for the conditions. They are cocooned in their metal box, listening to Terry Wogan (is he still going?) or 5 live and their attention is not on the road.

You have millions driving on medications for colds and depressions and god knows what else. Many of these make you drowsy. Then you have shift workers, those who's faculties aren't as sharp as they used to be or who's eyesight is going and those on sugar, drug or alcohol highs or lows. Kids making a racket in the back, cars with 'boom boxes' and those who are exhausted after being overworked. Lorry drivers on the limit. Cars carrying too many passengers. The list is lengthy. If they truly cared about road safety, they would get them all off the road but they can't because the country would grind to a halt. http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/a ... 1118931189

As far as I see it, the laws are designed to maximize revenue for the government, the Police and local councils. And motorists have been deliberately targeted for political and financial reasons.

We are all turning into robots. Speed cameras slow people down until they are passed then they speed up again. When a camera flashes you at night, it causes shock, anger and quite possibly an accident.

Some kids hit the pelican crossing button and run off. You stop, then sit there like fools until the light changes for fear of being seen and arrested. If you don't come to a complete stop at a white line you are fined. All very Pavlovian. It's gone too far.

There was a complaint not so long ago about youngsters being allowed to ride here on scooters. Yet their senses and reactions are razor sharp, far more so than some of the elderly I've seen.

My concern is with the stifling restrictions on freedom. That's why I'm here. And if Thailand goes the same way, I'm off somewhere else.

Those who stoutly defend the UK system aren't fooling anyone. Never broken the speed limit? Or just not been caught?

C'mon little pavlovian doggies. Woof! Woof!

At least now now I can put names on the Fortuners passing me on either side between Chaam and HH, when I am going 120 kmh. If you can get so excited just writing about driving, I can imagine you behind the wheel.
And we are complaining about the way the Thais drive and lack of traffic culture.
BTW I thought this was a thread about visaruns.

A load of bigotted waffling if thailand goes that way you will be off somewhere else might I suggest Somalia that is lawless you will fit in well very few doctors so they will not annoy you. The other solution is I suggest you go see a psychiatrist and explain or your problems you have with law and order you are definetely a plank short of a load. :D

:offtopic:

This thread is about a visa run to Laos - not UK traffic regulations.

Spitfire and caller. My apologies. I was under the mistaken impression that you had an elementary understanding of accident causation. I suggest a quick look at Derek Viners work, although a little mechanistic in approach.

PS I don't understand why contributors to this forum have to resort to bullying those that have a contrary view. Could be a rage outcome from a visa run to Laos (just to get back to topic) ha, ha.

I can now understand Lindosfan1's avatar after his /her outburst at Mr P.

Perhaps you should just agree to disagree!!

And you measure for wealth by the things you can hold
And you measure for love by the sweet things you’re told
And you live in the past or a dream that you’re in
And your selfishness is your cardinal sin.

And you want to be held with highest regard
It delights you so much if he’s trying so hard
And you try to conceal your ordinary ways
With a smile or a shrug or some stolen cliche.

‘Cos emotionally you’re the same basic trip
And you know that I know of the times that you’ve slipped
So don’t try to impress me, you’re just pins and paint
And don’t try to charm me with things that you ain’t.

And don’t try to enchant me with your manner of dress
‘Cos a monkey in silk is a monkey no less

So measure for measure reflect on my said

And when I won’t see you then measure it dead.

‘Cos don’t you understand, and don’t you look about
I’m trying to take nothing from you
So why should you act so put out for me?

What a load of sanctimonious crap!

Another ridiculous conclusion and example.

Perhaps you would be happier here then, http://www.mlparena.com/

Just a bit of mild fun Charlesh, c'mon, lighten the mood somewhat. Don't always infer the negative conclusion or be serious too much.

It's not bullying, it's 'taking the piss', I presume you've heard of that down under or is it just the 'bloody poms' again?

Returning to topic, I think Laos is a great place to get a visa.

But while I'm here I'd love to know what the phrase in the lyrics "reflect on my said" means...? :?
