Where to go for vacuum repair

Post by Sciamachy »

Vacuum is clogged up because the maid ran it without the bag...

Is there anywhere in HH that repairs vacuums or is there a small appliance repair shop?

:lach: This has to be a classic. Maid: "Hmmm, what is this big wad of dusty paper doing in here....I'll just toss it out and the machine will run much better... Pete

Yes, it's funny, and not so funny. I've run into the same problem here many times with hiring local help to work in the home or yard with expensive equipment that they've never seen before so don't know how to use or maintain.

I caught our yard guy putting a gas/oil mixture into my very expensive Honda lawn mower that is gas only. I guess he thought it was the same as his Honda motorbike!

One housekeeper kept filling the laundry room with suds a foot deep as we could never seem to teach her the amount of detergent to put in. Forget the dishwasher. I don't even let my wife run that. I do it, and the housekeeper and she wash dishes by hand if I'm not there.

These workers have never seen, much less owned modern, expensive, western appliances and just don't know how to use or take care of them. You have to be very specific with any instructions you give them and then hope for the best! :D

Exactly correct, which is why I'm still cleaning, backwashing and servicing my pool myself. Get 20 miles away from an expat area and no one knows what to do, and doesn't listen when you teach them.

The last one I tried, by good luck only I walked into the pump room as he was going to throw the switch for backwash, and hadn't opened the water discharge valve. I would have had blown seals and plugs everywhere, and perhaps a cracked filter casing as well. He had already watched me do it over and over again but forgot.

Anyway, :offtopic: For the OP, lacking other replies, I would go back to where you bought it and see if they'll service it. Pete

Funny thread! If it's western and requires abstact thought to operate/maintain, then keep them away from it. No-one goes anywhere near my washing machine/dish washer etc. Might aswell teach them about something to do with astro physics, same reaction.

... Makes you wonder who maintains things like Thai Air's planes, or the MRT and BTS in Bangkok...

Steve I'm sure can comment more on this. I've read that Thai does really well and is certified by Boeing, and does all the maintenance here for other Star Alliance members. I also remember that United put much effort, and maybe still does, into working with and training Thai mechanics.

The FAA has certified them at both Swampy and U-Tapao concerning maintenance.

I would bet there are many farang supervisors in the mix with them here. Pete
