Khun Tuck Dechapanya has died

Post by bapak »

Khun Tuck Dechapanya, the ownr of Hotline has died... I do not have full details as yet but his body is at Wat Hua Hin.

Khun Tuck has bought to notice of various Thai authorities of misdeeds against many foreigners in this town, not only in Hotline but often behind the scenes.

He will be a loss to our community.

Indeed! He was one of the few who tried to right the wrongs here from what I know. I met him once and he seemed to be very sincere in wanting to help the community and to mediate problems between both foreigners vs. foreigners and foreigners vs. Thais.

He will be missed by many.

Would that be Hotline - the rag in English that publishes horrific "tiger pose" pictures of policemen posing with dead farangs and scurulous gossip about them, showing utterly no respect for them or their families and friends?

That "newspaper"?

Dont expect sympathy from me sparky....I think the air is smelling cleaner round here.

Khun Tuck was indeed a stalwart for any Farang havin the usual problems/hassle with HH developers, and know of a few Farang that have
used his services and got a result.
Through all this tho' he musta made some enemies, both them that try build houses and them that succeed in selling them...?
I bet there is no-one to take his place around here in a hurry, all of you with housing problems etc have just lost your only allie.
RIP Khun Tuck.

Whatever you might think of his newspaper selling tactics or lack of western photo standards . .Kuhn Tuck was one of the few . .very few ( actually I can not name another) Thai people in a position of some influence here who listened to farangs and tried to make life in Hua Hin better for us.

Let me repeat that . .he LISTENED to us and he TRIED to make life here better for all Hua-Hinians

TIT . . . .! ! ! How often does this happen????

In this alone he was unique.

He was also a real Hua Hin character . . .part of an old school, old time, small village days. You can't lament the growth of Hua Hin into a mini-Bangkok and not be sorry for his passing. He was a part of this town as none of us will ever be.

I am VERY sorry he died and offer my condolences to friends and family.

I agree Chas.

He was to have the non-working Canal Road Traffic Lights issue sorted - now, as you say, there is nobody else.

KHUN TUCK

Post by thaiorchid »

I have been reading HHAD forum for a while, and had intented to stay a reader, until I saw Sandmans idiotic reply to the news about Khun Tucks dead. Then I decided, I have to react.
I have known Khun Tuck for many years, and he was the only Thai person I have ever respected. He was as close to blue blood as you will ever come in HH. In his youth he was waterskiing with members of the royal family, I have a wonderfull picture of him and prince Apirak on the beach in HH more than 60 years ago. His father was the first Lordmayor of HH appointed by the King. This is about as much "face" as you will ever get in Thailand, and despite that he kept a very low profile, working out of his small office opposite the school, helping second and third class people, that is the way most Thais wiew farangs. The easy way for him would have been enjoying the hi-so life, that his "face" entitled him to.
But he chose to help the ones without a voice "the allians", which did not make him very popular within all groups of the power in HH.
I have a friend who 2 years ago was kicked out by his Thai girlfriend, everything in her name, not married: 2 houses, 4 rai of land in HH and a condo in BKK. All together more than 30 M baht. Legally my friend had nothing to come with, but Khun Tuck took the case -partly as favour to my wife. And he spent a lot of time and travelling, using connections the Thai way and my friend got 50 % back. The bill : A taperecorder, so he could record his grandsons violinplay. This was the kind of man Khun Tuck was.
By the way he collapsed during a courthearing in Prachuap, working for a allian, was taken to a hospital in BKK, where he stayed 3 weeks before dying two days ago.
So Mr. Sandman 67, I am looking forward to your CIV, what have you done for society here or anywhere else ? Looking at the picture with your postersignature, I guess you are running one of those oh so important girlie-bars.
A little of the tread:
LANative, I dont know if you are for real or not, and in a way it does not matter. You have brought a little spark into the sanatorium, I enjoy reading your posters, what a relief from the sponsored dogwalks, cheap eateries and the neverending stories about immigration and the police.
Khun Tuck talking about the police in HH "they should be ashamed to call themselves buddist"

KHUN TUCK RIP. WE WILL MISS YOU !!

Thaiorchid. . .. Thank you SO much for the background on Khun Tuck! I did not know much about his life and I only had the chance to work with him indirectly and very briefly online. Never got to meet him, unfortunately, but I heard only good things about him from people who knew him well.

Chuckle, not sure what you mean, but this is an adult forum and you are allowed to say "hell." And though I didnt know him, I wish I did. What's for me . . .purgatory?

good and bad

Post by Bjohnson »

whilst it is always sad to hear of someone passing away even more so when they have done alot of good for some people I fully agree with sandman. The paper that was run by this man always had photos of either died people or something of that nature on the front page now really is that something that you and your family wont to see on your holiday. The victims of these crimes have families and really do the wont to see photos of there loved ones all over the paper for everyone to see, sometimes these people would be naked or in such a bad state that they could not be identified by there family showing no respect at all.I wonder if the paper will show a photo of the died body or one of him in hospital but I guess not.As sandman says the air is smelling better already

This thread has brought forth a number of new and very recent members - it seems strange but I do not have the answer.

Can anybody enlighten me?

Most (if not all) Thai newspapers and news web sites (my wife reads them all the time) do that. It wasn't something that he thought up, it is part of the media culture in this country so please don't blame him for following his own culture.

I believe he was a good and honest man in a land of few of those. He helped or tried his best to help many people here (several of which I know personally) with little reward for himself, I personally mourn his passing.

Totally agree and if sandman and his cronies do not know that about Thai culture then I think they should go home to their own country and enjoy the squekky clean newspapers there.

Condolences to his Family. RIP

Agree, just ignorance of Thai culture by Sandman and others. Facts are the front pages were not full of these photo's in any case, maybe there were some on occassions, not too sure. Understand, there was some doubts cast due to disputes not being resolved and remaining outstanding, hardly Khun Tuck's fault as he was facilitating them and not the public prosecutor or judge etc. Also a poster said he collapsed during a court case where he was assisting a foreigner.
But NONE of the above should have been discussed on this particular thread anyway, this is to pay respect for those that wish to, or have any.

Only met him once at a general meeting about building disputes and he was down to earth and friendly to all, not just the Thai high officials there. Gather from consumers that saw him they believe he was genuinely trying to assist them and doing his best for them.

RIP Khun Tuck.
