Ranong -down south to Burma.
use the Andaman Club boat as its now monsoon, so crossing the bay in a longboat is playing roulette with the weather. The AC option is just easier and keeps you dry.....ive been in one of those longboats in a monsoon squall mid bay...not fun as it looked like it was gonna sink, and I looked like a drowned rat by the time we reached Burma.
Andaman Club run = 850 bht including the Burmese visa fee. Easy and no hassles.
Longboat from the dock = 400 bht and the chance it will sink, clambering around to get in and out, and hassle from the touts at the Burma end, which looks like the Lebanon on a bad day.....about as much fun as a broken leg. You will also need two pristine 10 dollar bills...wet ones arent accepted....and a photocopy of each passport biodata page.
If you overstay you cant do the Andaman run....just the longboat hell version.
Taxi there and back - the road gets "interesting" and full of idiot Thai truck drivers......round trip 12 hrs.
Set off at 3 or 4am and you miss the traffic both ways.
Some nice scenic stops down near Ranong with waterfalls and bays....take your camera, and make a day of it.
