When the Six nations was the Five nations, the matches were every 2 weeks, and if you think about it, only 4 of the 5 teams could play on any given day, so one team had a rest day. So with your rest day, each team only played 1 game in a 4 week period and the rest of their matches every 2 weeks. The tournament used to span 10 weeks. It was the only thing that got Northern Europeans through the drudgery of winter. Now we have "Hua Hin". Also both weekend games were played at the same time on a Saturday. You watched one live, and the result of the other was read out at half-time and full-time. When anyone was beating England, there was always a huge cheer. (Sorry bout that fellow English members !). Now Wales and Ireland don't cheer anymore, they just expect to hear England losing !!. (oops - thats alienated me against half the forum I guess)

You won't draw me that easily Arcadian into a Celtic-Anglo bashing match. There are lots of benefit in being English, The Linton Travel Tavern in Norwich just springs to mind.

Anyway here are the 'World of Rugby according to Bamber predictions' for the weekend.

Week 3
Scotland 20 - 15 Italy
France 31 - 20 Wales
Ireland 29-19 England

Table Positions
Ireland 3 Wins, France & Wales 2 wins, England & Scotland 1 win, Italy 0 wins

For what it's worth I agree with #1 and #3, although I think Scotland over Italy will be by a larger margin. Wales at France, a tough one. I think closer, or Wales wins. :D Pete

Bamber I am impressed with your France Wales prediction, let`s hope you got the Ireland England score wrong!
Randy, I hope your description of our near continental neighbours doesn`t upset at least one poster, but then again???
Did you get the phrase from Richard Littlejohn? If so perhaps you could post some of his articles onto HHAD, this will give the expats a good reason not to return to the UK. Unfortunately I am computer illiterate otherwise I would do it myself.

There are two English managers whose future is uncetain as we sleep. Martin Johnson and Arsene Wenger. If England lose to France Johnson is under serious pressure, and if Arsenal don't reach Champions League final, Wenger is gone.

Bamber who can't predict the closing times of the Karoke Bars will continue to confound with his sporting predictions. Anyone betting on me yet ?.

Next weekend.

France will beat England at Twickenham
Ireland will beat Scotland at Murrayfield
Wales will beat Italy (not sure if they are home or away).

After 4 matches.
Ireland 4 wins, France & Wales 3 wins, England & Scotland 1 win, Italy 0 wins.

The world of rugby according to Bamber !.

sorry didn't mean to switch topic off Rugby 6 nations, but just to answer you RedZoneRocker (perhaps an Arsenal supporter), - why does everyone think Wenger is so untouchable a great manager. He has been allowed to get away with non-trophy years in the belief he is building a great new 'young' team. Now he has built it, and it is floundering in the league - great wins against Chelsea and ManU, but no backbone, out of the title chase, and possibly out of Europe.

So I leave my prediction in place, RedZoneRocker and would be interested to hear what odds you would give me that if Arsenal don't get to Champions League final, he is gone before the start of next season. Odds please in Singha multiples. (ie. 5 Singhas to 1).

aah, not afraid to admit it, I got my first result wrong of the 6 nations. Who could have predicted that France would try to change their defence patterns and get it so wrong against a resurgent English side. France were awful and England punished them. Still its only a side show. The real show is next weekend in Cardiff. Ireland have first chance of Grand Slam in 61 years. Wales have a shot of triple crown and championship if they can beat Ireland by 13 points. So how does Bamber call it - You would still be up in the bookies if you had gone along with me all the way.

Ireland will beat Wales at Cardiff
France will beat Italy
England will beat Scotland.

Final Table
Ireland 5 wins, Wales 3 wins, England 3 wins, France 3 wins, Scotland 1 win, Italy 0 wins.

I have to admit I'm not a Rugby fan but the wife loves it, so I sat through the England-France game yesterday.

The wife jumping up and down screaming and cheering and explaining the rules to me.

Have to say I enjoyed it and will be watching all the coming matches, with her indoors.

Just wish she would stop screaming.
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
