Train from Hua Hin to BKK

Hi All
Just wondering if anyone knows where we can purchase Train tickets in Hua Hin. We are looking at catching the 06:23 train (if i read the time table correctly) to BKK from Hua Hin in the next few weeks however since its early morning departure we would like to buy the train tickets prior to morning departure.
Also am i correct in reading the timetable in regards to fares:-
1st Class - THB 922
2nd Class - THB 522
or am i wrong as i dont understand the up/low fares listed on the timetable?
And one last question is there much difference between the 1st and 2nd class apart from the THB 400

First class will have soft reclining seats and air con. If you travel at night you will also get a little blanket with which to drape yourself with...

I think you have to get the tickets at the station. That's where my train traveling friends get them.

Your best bet is to go to the train station and book there. You can do so 90 days in advance on the "main" trains that will be traveling up from the deep south in the early morning.
I don't think you'll need 1st class. Probably better to go for 2nd where the carriages are air con anyway (just on the trains in the early morning). All the beds get broken down and turned into seating as the train arrives in HH.
The up/low fares mean the sleeping arrangements as if you're in a bunk bed. Lower is always slightly more expensive and if you travel overnight you'll realise why. I'm getting older and it isn't much fun trying to climb up the ladder to the upper berth after a few beers.
The early morning trains probably won't make the distinction because the bunk beds will have been turned into normal seating arrangements as the train gets into HH.

My experience suggests there is NO 1st class only 2nd class. The time indicated suggests it may be the up train from the Sth. Yes get your tickets from the station and NOT just the day before either. Also get used to the idea of it being late (mine was 3hours late) or CANCELLED.

The last time i caught the 0623 train from Hua Hin to bangkok i got to the station at 0615 went home for breakfast and caught it as it left bang on time at 0830

THB522 in 2nd class for a 200km journey? Sounds a bit much to me.

Agreed. I've been on those early morning trains before but from to HH down south in the evenings. It's only some 1,100 Baht from HH to Butterworth in 2nd class air con. That's 17 hours+++. They're the same trains that simply turn around at their terminus.

Mark two predictable things
1...The 0623 is never never early
2... After 0623 its departure time is as predictable as Volcanic eruptions, Earthquakes and Tsunamis

Last tip buy the cheapest seat and then sit in the resteraunt and have a few early morning sherberts coffee or even breakfast

I think it's a bit confusing. Usually, you'll have the choice between 2nd A/C or 3rd class.

As far as I have understood, you may have a 1st class only when coupled with sleepers.

Don`t expect to be able to doze off during the journey. We travelled the opposite way and it seemed that every 30 seconds or so the hawkers tried to sell us something, mainly food. An interesting experience all round.
