Coming over soon for some golf with the boys.
Rather than bringing my clubs over I might buy a cheap 2nd hand set with bag to keep there.
I wont have a lot of time to look around so can you please advise the best place to look.
I'm a bit of a hacker so nothing fancy. Probably don't need a driver.
With all the talk of expensive golf in HH I imagine there will be plenty for sale.

Wrong, there is very little for sale in Hua Hin. You will do very much better to buy a cheap set before you fly and leave them here

If you happen to fly through HK, you could pick up some fakes in China for about 200AUSD, play with them in HH and bring them back and sell them for about twice what you paid in China

Well, there's a second hand shop in Pranburi that I've browsed around a few times and it's a real Alladdin's cave. You can pick up a second hand, full set of irons for anywhere between 2,500 (not so good old blades) to 7,500 for decent clubs. Some of the drivers look a bit suspect at 5,000 odd - they must be copies - but there are shelves of looses irons and woods that will probably cost next to nothing (there are no prices on them).
There's also a bigger shop in Cha-Am that admittedly I havn't been to but have heard that it's also good. Probably about the same price range.
Ant then there's here - http://classifiedshuahin.com/ and that turns up some decent bargains as well occasionally.

Dolphin Bay Golf Course

Post by lomuamart »

Apparantly the course is closed on Mondays and Fridays until to further notice. Effective from today.
It's really dry and we were told that that golfers were sticking something (probably a tee) into the sprinklers to stop them whirling around and not taking the tee out. They water midweek. The greenkeeper must be having a nightmare - bone dry greens except where the puddles congregate.
We enjoy it down there. It's not the best of courses but what can you expect for free? And we have angry moments and better times.
There were signs up today at the tees on nearly every hole. My friend translated and they were asking that people respected the course and didn't leave their litter around.
We normally "litter" the water with our balls.

Unbelievable. I'm a mod and can't understand a "sticky" thread.
Sorry, the course was Dolphin Bay.

Thanks everyone.
I dont want fakes and I dont want to carry clubs over on the plane. Suitcases will be full of stuff for the family.
The shop in Pranburi sounds good. Any chance of rough directions Lomu?

If it's the same one I know:

Going south, pass through the traffic lights at the Pranburi-Chaam bypass junction.

The shop is on the left after that before your reach the next set of lights to turn into the Tanarat Army Base.

That's the place, barrys.
Just a slight alteration to what I was saying about Dolphin Bay. Appears that it's closed until 10am on Mondays and Fridays, not all day, so they can water.
Perhaps someone else can confirm?

Looking for a bit of help here please. I've got some friends coming over soon and they're keen golfers. I don't get out on the big courses much these days so I'm not sure of the current green fees. Can anyone help with up-to-date prices at the following places?
Royal HH, Palm Hills, Milford/Seoul CC, Springfield, Majestic, Lake View, Black Mountain, Banyan, Sawang, Royal Ratchaburi - I've got Dragon Hills already.
Thanks.

These are pretty much correct.
Royal HH, Lakeview, Springfield, Palm Hills,Majestic - all Bht2500.
Black Mountain - Bht3000.
Banyan - Bht3250 ( includes caddy and buggy)
Milford - was Bht800
Royal Ratchaburi - Bht650
Sawang - not sure but around Bht1500
Kaeng Krachan - Bht800 on Thursdays is good value

Dear Golfers,
Its come to the stage where I need to ask for advice and guidance from those that can actually play this game. I've been learning golf for almost six months now and am finding it more frustrating (and less enjoyable) every time I play - it just never seems to improve, and often gets worse which is even more infuriating. My game seems no better now than when I started and it doesn't help when Mrs buksi beats me regularly.

My regular 'home' course is a local par 34 nine hole, its not in the best of condition but I'm not using that as an excuse as others can play on it far better than I do. My average score around that is mid to high 50's and I try to play it twice a week. Now I'm naturally pretty competitive so do get angry when I start screwing up shots - which of course then writes off the rest of the round.

Now some will already be saying 'get yourself to the range and have a lesson with the pro', well I've done that too (several times) and he sets me right in 30 seconds where I can fire off reasonably consistent iron shots - those mats are great. I just can't carry that knowledge and swing to the course, my driving is about as consistent as Hua Hin immigration's policies, my four year old son could play a better short game, and as for putting ... its coin flipping time.

So how did all you guys that can now play golf get over these initial hurdles? The way I look at things now I have 3 options:

1) Put the clubs on the classifieds and take up kitesurfing.
2) Accept that I'm crap at this and enjoy the walk.
3) Carry on in the hope that I meet an incarnation of Buddha on the course who can bless me with the ability to play golf.

Answers on a postcard please.
Yours,
Desperately frustrated golfer.

Looking forward to the answers .I have a membership to palm hills and a set of clubs .Not had a lesson yet .I would be over the moon if I could hit 54 on a par 34 :D Been to the driving range a few times but have not played a round in HH yet .All the golfers I know want to tee off in the middle of the night (6.15am)
