All Buksi needs to do is stand on his head and putt with his feet

Getting the basics right in golf is essential to ALL players, even the pros who have quirky moves in their swing get the club in the right places and obey the basics.
A good pro will get your body in the right position to allow you to let your body work in the right way - be it hitting a driver/bunker shot or a putt. Once you have the basics in place you can move forward.
How many of the top players work on mechanics of the stroke with their teacher - many have a different guy working on the putter!
Buksi - ask JW (other one) for 10 minutes next time you see him - it can only help. Feel and touch and reading greens comes with practise.
You ll be fine mate!!

JW or anyone who knows -

What kind of practice facilities does Black Mountain have? Covered? Do they have any kind of chipping/pitching area?

I'm looking for somewhere to practice my short game on real grass.

Thanks

That's one thing I've always thought was missing here. There are lots of driving ranges, but few places to practice the short game.

In both Florida and California, there where driving ranges that also had huge putting and chipping facilities. some had giant putting greens with 18 holes that could be played like a miniature golf course. Most of the bigger ones also had dedicated chipping areas with real sand traps for chipping, pitching and bunker practice.

I haven't seen any of those types of facilities here...

Best practice facility is at Black Mountain - lovely turf to hit off, good putting green and chipping area. They have a hole on the putting green which just takes the ball - makes u feel like the hole on the course is like a dustbin!

JW -

Thanks for the info, sounds just like what I'm looking for.

One more question if you have any idea. What's the quickest way to get there from the north end of town? We've always gone from downtown area and it's a long way.

Thanks again

Where are the cheapest golf balls in town? I am trying to take up the sport again but I lose about a ball per hole. I want decent balls but since I need a lot of them I want to get them at the best price!

Funny that, I suffer from the same stray ball problem! Old range balls do the trick for me!

I guess you can pick up real cheap ones at the golf shop in Pranburi, from Hua Hin its on the left just after the bypass joins the Pranburi road.

Oh, and to the rest, thanks for the putting tips, it has improved a bit - but now I can't hit the fuggin driver anymore!

That's the world of golf... Last week I was in Phuket playing on Loch Palm, the first day I was driving nice and straight and hit 10 fairways but I made 39 putts on the round and missed 4 birdie opportunities from less than 10 feet away. I kept on chipping and making two putts and even a few threes. The next day, a slice/fade appeared on my drives and I hit 4 fairways but managed 29 putts, no real birdie opportunities yet a better score because I had loads of one chip, one putt pars.

First day wanted to wrap the putter around a few palm trees and the next day, the driver was in great danger of not surviving the round yet they both lived to get me in trouble another day. I don't ever remember a game where I thought I hit all the shots I really wanted. If it happens I may finally reach my dream of playing a scratch round...What a game...

Black Mountain have closed the grass bays and the chipping green at the course gearing up for the BMG Masters late March. No point using that range now until the tournament is done.

Any more info on that is definitely welcome JW, I for one won't be playing on any of the major HH courses for a while - at least until I'm rich enough to retire, by then my game may have improved also!

A new locally accessible and locally priced course would be spot on!

Absolutely! It can go 2 ways - Fort Dhanrat Style which will be cheaper but actually not fully utilise a fantastic location or more hopefully they build something special which is a credit to Hua Hin - it could really put us on the map - first way will give cheap golf, second way will hopefully add to the competition and reduce prices! Thats what we all want.
Great news whichever way you look at it! :thumb:

HH you could try one of two methods

1. tie a bit of string on yr ball

2 . use a putter all the time - u might not crack the course record but at least you will never lose a ball
tip
avoid courses with water! or find a caddy that swims like a fish and has the string tied to him
