Post by MartinJ »

I do hope that this does not mean bad times.

The big hotel may fill with big cars with drivers , cheap hotels with peoplwe in red, it there are not sitting out side the big hotels.

The mid hotels may have the press.

All when i wanted to come back. so may have to be back after the thai new year, ( so i may not get wetter this year).

I not 100% sure of when all this would be over and done with so please could , if any one knows, clear this up for me.

I think the yes the police may have to make sure the bar are closed on time. So where am i going to watch the late kick offs from ?

I hope this post stays active and on topic as this is evnet is of great interest to me as i love this town, all the great people and feel so safe. and it good to know the one i leave there remain safe.

It should i hope bring some money to the town, make it safer, make all follow the rules a bit more, helmets on bikes etc and may be we could all have a big party after they all have gone as then all can relax again

ps this was sent from my phone, sorry about any spelling mistakes

I believe this meeting was moved to Hua Hin specifically because the red shirts wont disrupt it because there is a certain resident who they would NOT want to offend quite correctly

Good evenning Everyone!!!

ASEAN Meeting...Hmmm... Perhaps this Meeting Thailand could mend relations with some other nations that we had rather difficult relations with.
For example A few days before The EU Summit Meeting in Heiligendamm, Germany in 2007 (smaler in size than Hue Hin) german Chancelor Angela Merkel invited US President George W. Bush to an informal casual Grill Dinner and meet up with (Hand selected by Chancelor Staff) Locals from the Area.
Imagine that Abhisit would do that with hmmm... lets say the Prime Minister of Singapore over a casual Dinner to mend relations over the Temasek Sale of Shin Corp, with the exeption that no locals will allowed.

just a thought of mine...

Tourism operators in Hua Hin expect a boost in revenue as a result of the hosting of the 14th Asean Summit in the resort city in late February.

Manoo Tharnpipitchai, chief adviser to the tourism council in Hua Hin and Cha-am, said that the approximately 10,000 rooms in hotels and resorts in Hua Hin and nearby Cha-am could accommodate participants.

The council anticipates that the meeting will generate at least Bt40 million in revenue, split equally between hotel and non-hotel operators. The spending is based on the expectation that each of the 2,000 participants will spend about Bt20,000.

"This is a big boost for Hua Hin and Cha-am, following the political conflicts last year. The number of visitors to Hua Hin has dropped by 30 per cent year on year," he said.

Sombat Kaewyuang, marketing chief of the council, said tourism products being promoted were spas, golf courses, vineyards and sunflower fields. Tourism operators will meet with the Tourism Authority of Thailand next week to finalise their marketing strategies.

He did not expect any security mishap, as the Foreign Affairs Ministry has consulted with the mayors of Hua Hin and Cha-am as well as business operators in the cities on security measures. Moreover, local police have prepared for the meeting and local people are eager to welcome visitors.

hi there It's now been offcial

The Venue for the Meetings of ASEAN Delegations will be The Dusit Thani Hotel & Resort in Hua HIn. The Transportation Issue has also been resolved as well. As It's Well known that Hua HIn Airport cannot accomodate the LAndings of Big Aircrafts. So The World leaders will Fly with Their Planes in wether if it's AIrbus or Bioeng into Suvarnabhum and than transferred into a smaller Aircraft which will take them to Hua HIin.

At least the Dusit is at the North end of town. Maybe it won't screw up the traffic (any worse than it already is) downtown. I was afraid they'd stay at the Sofitel and the whole of downtown would be closed due to security requirements.

I'm not sure if this is good news for the people who live here but I would very much like to hear what you have in mind elem.
If the meeting will generate better roads and a slightly better education for the MIB force posted here then I understand your points?
Will our small domestic airport be renamed Hua Hin International Airport because of the meeting, or will just the usual flowers pop up on all the roads leading into town?

If we will benefit from it in the long run is in my opinion highly questionable but maybe you can tell us a bit more of your thoughts.

I predict traffic chaos and blocked roads everywhere in town.
In addition a possible limitation on alcohol sale, even closed up bars.
(Heaven forbid I'm right).

I don't want to sound too negative but I can't see the lights in the end of the tunnel.
After all this is a very small town but a massive meeting!

Maybe it will improve the roads etc.

We have been waiting for 40 years for a bypass here in the UK with no success, then we were chosen to host part of the Olympics and Hey Presto, they approved a bypass and have started to build it already.

Mind you, British builders, so expect it to open some time in 2015. :P
Bit worried about the bars though, will they allow them to stay open, I doubt it. :cuss:
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

I'm not a prophet on this, but I can't see any reason why the bars should be closed. It's not a Royal birthday or a major Buddhist holiday. Business as normal I would have thought.

We'll also be getting a visit from a shitload of boys in brown so stay off the streets if you're a farang!

About 3,100 policemen will be deployed to keep security in Hua Hin and Cha-Am during the Asean summit later this month, Provincial Police Bureau 7's Commissioner Pol Lt-Gen Thawil Surachetpong said Wednesday.

Thawil said the police forces would come from tourist police and several agencies in provinces near Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Thawil was speaking to reporters during a meeting of senior police officers for making preparations for the Asean summit, which will be held on February 27 to March 1 in Phetchaburi's Cha-Am district and Prachuap Khiri Khan's Hua Hin district.

Its called humour. The plod in Thailand have been known to target foreigners when they need a bit of extra pocket money and Hua Hin's don't have the best reputation so with 3,000 of them wandering around a tourist town you can only wonder ...

They’ve have been down cleaning the beach again today and you know what, there’ve been loads of Thai people this late afternoon on the beach never seen so many, is it because it's clean now?
