:( Hieneken,San Miguel and Draught 50 baht along Beach Road to Walking Street Pattaya or Bangla Road to Soi Eric in Phuket. These bars nestle between top entertainment complex and food establishment's. Compare these price's with the 70 to 90 baht you will pay in the run down bar area of Hua Hin.

Hookers 1000 baht in Hua Hin plus bar fine plus room 1600 baht

Pattaya Soi 6 1000 baht all in.

You can pay anything upto 5,000 baht for the night in Pattaya, this willbe a stunning thing, you will not see the like of this in Hua Hin.

Rip off you bet.

Food price's,go to Tesco, same all over Thailand

Bella, everybody knows the prices in Pattaya but nobody gives a shit or they would be in Pattaya.

Why you constantly need to repeat things everybody is aware of is very strange, WE KNOW ALREADY.

Are you aware that nobody is tied to Hua Hin and has the choice to Holiday or live where they want to in Thailand?

The people on this board chose HH so wind your neck in.

Pattaya is a good night out buts also a dump!

Pattaya - you forgot to mention the ever-increasing crime, like muggings, stabbings, shootings, burglaries where they kill the farang occupant, ice freaks, drug gang crime, Russian mafia, German mafia, numerous daily road deaths, etc etc.
We all done Pattaya when we first come over just like we all sniffed glue over the park when we were 14. Now we choose to live in Hua Hin.

20 Baht extra a beer ?? LOL, I'd gladly pay 50 Baht extra so my kid doesn't have to grow up in that dump.
It's personal choice, no-one is right or wrong, they can live where they want.

Monday's headlines from Pattaya News:
1) Home-Alone woman caught up in armed robbery.
2) Huoy Yai Police continue their investigation into recent murder of convenience store owner.
3) Throat slashed and punched in the face. Woman recovers from abduction and robbery.
4) Two men injured following shooting outside Tesco-Lotus in North Pattaya.

Hua Hin a rip off!?!?!? is there a price/formula you can apply to your family living in a low crime area compared to high crime area. Not for me.

I'm a fool! I should base my visits to Thailand on the 20 baht difference in beer prices. After 2,600 draught beers I've saved an airfare!

The "thing" better be stunning, the price certainly is. Personally, I'd rather pay for a woman.
Rip off you bet.

In the end, so fcuking what?

Tried Pattaya and hated it so I'm not bothered too much about comparisons with there. Love Phuket but I'm struggling to live here so that's way out of my league! HH has a lot to offer but will never match Phuket for beauty and watersports so it would be a big mistake to pitch its prices at the same level.

Personal opinion is that everyday prices are creeping up here out of proportion to the true cost. You really can make savings by keeping your eyes open for a bargain, even fuel price can vary 3-5 baht per litre within a few hundred yards, Shell on Petchkasem always seems to be the best value to fill up.

Bangkok is difficult to do comparisons with as the price varies so much there depending on location, but away from 'downtown' most areas are similar to HH town centre prices. However on one of my favourite grumbles, weekday Golf in Bangkok 750 baht on one of any number of top quality courses!! Remind me how much it is here as I haven't been for so long. With the exception of the new condos close to BTS stations, rent seems to me about the same as HH. 3 bed townhouse in Nonthaburi is 12,000 pm, Ladprao around 15,000.

The initial cut price offers are designed to draw shoppers away from local traders until the opposition closes down.
Good on you for continuing to support the market traders.
margaretcarnes

That seems to be Tesco's strategy the whole World over.

Price out the local shops and when they close, jack up the prices.

We don't use them in the UK but try to support local shops, before our town looks like a ghost town.

HuaHin prices and ripoffs

Post by margaretcarnes »

Yes KDon, and more recently its apparent that their employment tactics are a bit dubious as well.
But this HuaHin vs Pattaya thing (above) will never end will it? Two completely different resorts after all. As SJ says HH is preferable for people with children, and worth the extra 20 baht or so on a beer. 20 baht now is close on 50 pence, and a lot of beer prices in HH are actually double those 50 bahts quoted for Pattaya, or about a pound more.
Horses for courses though, and where expats choose to settle in LOS will be influenced mainly by what lifestyle they want.
But the crime rate in Pattaya surely reflects for one it's much higher population, as well as the influx of foreign 'mafia'.
It's unfortunate image has surely been fuelled by the lack of more strict controls placed upon HH for obvious reasons.
Restrictions which have prevented the type of free press which Pattaya has been able to have and which, IMO, maybe helps to make the divide look even wider.

Hi Margaret

Yes Margaret HH is much better for families and I believe safer than Pattaya in many respects.

I would never choose to live in Pattaya as I prefer a quieter life, with just a bit of night life and a few good shops.

Maybe as you say, HH could do with a press that is not linked to the house and condo trade and maybe that will come in time.

One thing I hope HH never gets, are those black shirted tourist police, they are quickly giving Pattaya a bad name. Why black shirts??

The price of beer/drinks never really bothered me and even in UK, I could not tell you the price of the Peronni I had last night.

If the bar atmosphere is convivial and the landlord and staff are friendly, then I will drink there.

Life for me, is to short to worry about a few pence on a pint.

The landlords have to turn a profit after all and if the farangs don't support the good ones, they will go elsewhere and we will be the losers.

I'm not a beach guy (can't even swim) but the beach where we lived at the north end of Naebkehart road was empty of hawkers, massage girls, jet skis, horses and fishermen.

Heaven for the wife and I and if we want to eat a meal on the beach, we would go to Cha Am for a couple of hours.

I'm happy to leave Pattaya to the people who want a bit more excitement,(I get enough just trying to cross the road in HH) give me Hua Hin any day. :sun:

Just my humble opinion, others will feel different no doubt.

Rip Off Prices

Post by Pundi64 »

Almost all the golf courses in Hua Hin are over priced for the frang, plus they use a double standard price as well, Thai's pay about 1/2 price or less then the frang prices.
Where they frang play they will surely pay :guns:

I am with you and all your attitudes re prices etc.

What I like about Hua Hin is that after you leave, you feel as though you have had a holiday, because you can relax without hassle during the day anywhere on the beach area, and there is enough diversity in the bar areas or just out of town to enjoy yourselves.

I have been to Phuket a couple of times, and although being like a kid in a candyshop for bars selections etc, after I left, I felt as though I needed another holiday to get over that one.

Am coming to Hua Hin again in May, but am going to Chiang Mai just for a change of scene for a week and then on the VIP Bus trip to HH.
have heard many good things about Chiang Mai so am looking forward to my trip.

You hear negatives about Hua Hin and its businesses here and on other forums, but if you ignore all of the shit that a lot of people spout about and take people as you find them, it makes for a most enjoyable holiday.

All the people I have had dealings with in HH, I only have praise for, so I think the critical thing is about peoples attitude, not the cost of things. If you are having good service from people, the cost is one of the last considerations I ever make.

Chelsea :)

I was so laid back in HH when I was there, It's a wonder I didn't fall over.

Being retired there helped, and I enjoyed the fact that HH was small enough to walk around most of it, without to much hassle.

Banks were good and people very friendly towards my wife and I.

No Tesco's then (except in the petrol station) and we would not use it even if there was one back then.

Support the local businesses before they are wiped out by the multi nationals.

We cannot do anything about the exchange rates, so can't be bothered to moan about prices, they are what they are.

Things are a lot worse in UK, unemployment at 2 million now and much worse to come.
Pensions hit by the financial situation, which is hitting many people very hard, both in UK and Thailand.

Spent some time in Chang Mai and loved it, also a month or so in Phuket (Amari Coral Beach hotel for our belated honeymoon) and found that they usually asked farangs to pay more for stuff, if they thought they could get away with it.
Luckily my little wife would have none of it and usually got her way on prices but it was fun none the less, watching her haggle them down.

Yes some golf clubs and other businesses charge farangs more, well this is Thailand and it's still cheap compared to other places around the World.

Even though HH has grown a lot, I still would not want to live elsewhere in Thailand.
I cannot wait to get back and sit on the porch with a glass of wine and watch the Sun go down.

Even if good wine in Thailand is bloody expensive.
