First time visit to Thailand coming up soon. I.ve been lucky enough to be a fair bit of travelling, and have hired cars in various places.
I keep reading that I will need an International Driving Licence. Is this true. I've not needed one anywhere else I've been. Seems a bit strange
Any advice much appreciated
Roger
Car Hire?
Would advise that you get the International Driving licence, as only that and the local licences are considered here. Do understand that the local constabulary are not fluent in English and it's not worth the hassle to get into prolonged differences of opinion.
Try not to drive over the speed limit, even if it looks like everone else is. They do have radar traps posted along the way, and the locals know where.
Other than that' it's a nice drive to Hua Hin. Make sure you have a decent road map. The road signs on the main highways are in English, so you should be okay.

Get and Int'l Lic
and back it up with the one from home. As a holder of an O-A Long Stay visa I drive on a Thai Lic and infact use that as an ID card for eveyrthing most show their passprot for (except passport control) and found that it is best case of all. It is Thai Law abou Int"l Lic or Thai lic. BTW, it is now hard to get a Thai lic...I think that the ture test is getting all the papers in order since I had to pass only a color blind test and was issued a thai DL. PM if you would like more info!
I hear that All Kidda has declared war on Thailand. Shite, just the boozer blokes in from the counties in the fight could get off the piss a woop'em good!
