Post by Governor »

Does anybody know where I can obtain an unlock code for my Thai purchased LG dvd player, so that I can play my UK and US dvd's?

Thanks

I think its the DVDs that are locked or "regional", not the player. I could be wrong though.

We've tried coded UK DVD's on both computers and players here and the locked ones don't want to know.

My understanding is that most legitimate DVDs have a region stamp burnt on them that can not be removed.

DVD players is most countries are chipped so that they will play DVDs from the region in which they are sold.

It is possible to get the chips replaced with one that will accept any region. I am sure that their will be somebody in Panthip Plaz that can do this.

I believe that the product Norseman pointed you to only apply to software DVD players and the cost makes it a poor option.

I have seen multi region DVD players here in Hua Hin at Pai Mai and Grand market.

Guess, you’re right as usual. :D
I’ve had a go at decoded region set DVD players before, sometimes it works and you get a full multi region player or ‘0’ as it sometimes comes up on the selection screen but other times you only manage to get one or two regions to work. The link below gives some info on different ways of doing this and the opportunity to give it ago yourself.

Be warned you can screw up your DVD player big time.

another site suggested in this weeks Sunday Telegraph in www.dvdexploder.com

the article also suggests that some retailers "will also cough the requisite code if you ask nicely"!

I'm not 100% sure, but on 1st floor in BigC Phetburi they have som smart guys with pc's in some of the telephone-shops. They changed operating systen in my old Nokia and a newer Sony Ericsson cellphone. Try them if you go there.

If you check on the mobile forums that phone has not been cracked yet and a hamfisted attempt could bugger it up all togeather.
I just bought a cheap orange phone and bought a local Sim card it is very cheap to call home.
you can even get the thai sims from ebay and the phone will work soon as you land.

Nokia 6680

Post by Mr Jame! »

Re-chipping the phone (Nokia 6680) is the only way to do it now. This is quite usual for new phones but Just found out this morning that the chips are still very expensive to order , around 3000 baht, but it can be done.
And Chan does know what he's doing.

I've seen old second hand nokia 3210 for 500 or 1000 baht. But phones arent really much cheaper here (if at all) than in England it seems to me. A 6680 new is about 18,500 at best I think.
