He still is. He has been a major part of the PAD demos in Bangkok for the last six months or more. There have even been a few songs written especially for PAD.santa wrote:Rang Rockestra was a great musician and a great guy, famous in the late 60's and early seventies. His venue had 3 separate main buildings, and all burnt down at once. He wouldn't pay 'protection' money. I wish I could track him down.
The official story was that the fire was started over a disagreement between a member of staff who live in and her ex boyfriend.
Rang and the manager have never been seen in Hua Hin since then.
He was certainly driven out of town as he would not pay huge sums for his "live music license". That was in about 1999. It was on the corner of Chom Sin and Petchakasem I think.
Still today, I think that the success of a music venue requires some sort of police involvement.
There were licenses awarded to three Hua Hin farang bars about two years ago but I have heard they were later revoked. I don't know the whole story.
One of the problems with live music venues is that everybody wants them but not in their street.
Another live venue that has disappeared is the one in Soi Salawat that is now Raymondo's. Similar story.
A venue I rarely see mentioned was the place on the corner of Petchakasem and Soi 96. The band was good and it served good food. New owners now so I don't know what the situation is.
