Lease agreements
A very serious question
Does it not bother people on this this board that they cannot own outright property in this country, they cannot seem to get permanent residence for a minimum period of 5 years and whenever they have some form of legal or utility problem they always send the G/f
This would worry the hell out of me,perhaps a sane person like Richard can enlighten me as I fully expect damming posts from the usual squad of beligerents who jump down the throat of anyone who dares to question the utopian lifestyle that you profess to lead with your G/F's .generally 30 years younger.
About 2 years ago some posts came across about the ease of living in malaysia ref to residence and buying property but somehow it did not seem to appeal to The Thai junkies who progress from a weeks holiday in Pattaya to a a more sophisticated resident of Hua hin
Lets have some honest replies instead of all the usual negative jargon,my real feeling is that75% visitors who become residents come for the female flesh and I look forward to being corrected if this is an incorrect supposition.
As a lifetime overseas oil worker and traveller,I never found Thailand beautiful, especially in the isthmus south of BKK,everyone say the climate is great and then runs the AC for 12 hours a day/8 months a year.Certainly a wee bit cheaper than UK.None of your mates in Uk think it is exoctic, they know its a pick up joint in reality.
Tough post but lets have some good answers instead of the usual'this guy is a troll' .After visiting and living in Thailand for 3 years I decided to move on from SA to Argentina and give Thailand a miss.It certainly never felt exoctic to me,Luang Prababang or Nha Trang perhaps but Ho Hin no way

Thanks fellow spurs supporter, its a serious post requiring well thought answers which I know many members are capable off and it comes off a question about leases
Many answers abound and generally the usual answer is that is that it is the G/F's name and she deals with everything.
You read into many members posts and they are actually on the second relationship as the first Thai wife is now living in the uk.Huge gamble as many have moved to Thailand on retirement income only.Ready for any flak coming my way

Gawd, all I was pointing out is that this is really a new topic and nowt to do with leases, hence having its own thread and not hi-jacking someone elses!!!!
I'll shut the door on my way out.
But before I do, I don't really get this?
Why is it a huge gamble?
Likewise, readhy for any flak coming...

So the scenario is that wifey moves to the UK with hubby, stays in the UK either on ILR or citizenship, whilst he then relocates to LOS, hitching up again and having nothing to do with his first(?) wife?Digger wrote:You read into many members posts and they are actually on the second relationship as the first Thai wife is now living in the uk.Huge gamble as many have moved to Thailand on retirement income only.Ready for any flak coming my way

Why is it a huge gamble?
Its a huge gamble because first wife will require divorce and that means half of worldly possesions and unfortunateley may include 50% of all pension payments, coming off a guy who has probably just retired and has no good chance of earning a serious amount of capital again.
Thats a huge gamble,
keep the flak coming, yours was downright disappointing, its only 1830 in Argentina

Every relationship has a degree of risk involved.
I met my wife in Oz.
She has Thai and Aus passport.
We own property in Aus and She and Daughter own property in Thailand.
Why digger, do you suggest that I should not retire in Hua Hin. Should we sell up and go to another country.
You go wherever you want and so will I.

You only live once.

This seems to be a mini rant about Thai-falang relationships. Why not post in the "frothing at the mouth" section?
Hi Digger,
Re: Protection from divorce in Thailand, many foreigners do not get good advice. Thai divorce law is very loaded in favour of the foreign spouse
who has his own finances before marriage.
Under Thai divorce law the wife would not be entitled to 1 penny of the capital you paid on the house and land but is entitled to 50% of the capital gain during marriage. So in the event of divorce you can only make money on the property.
If however you decide to put the land in your wife/girlfriends name then it is only you who has put yourself at risk.
3M Baht minimum in an account for 1 year, if you're under 50.
Then after one year you can withdraw 2.4M Baht for house purchase.
You have to keep minimum of 600k Baht in account at all times.
You are not permitted to work at all.
You have to seek Government approval to withdraw your funds from Malaysia if you choose to move on.
Malaysia is a karzi (my opinion, not part of the program)
Sounds like you have found peace and happiness where you are, good for you.

Yes, but the desire to live here overrides it. We know the limitations of ownership, if someone is not happy with that they should rent.Does it not bother people on this this board that they cannot own outright property in this country

Might have helped if you'd mentioned divorce.
From the stories I have heard, some ladies just go awol. I've heard more about guys sorting their divorce in LOS. Cheaper & easier.

It was my original thread and I received some good advice. Thanks to all for that. To answer Digger`s follow on my English wife and I, married 32 years, sold up in London, luckily at the top of the market, and bought our house in Thailand for a several reasons, we enjoyed holidaying there, it is cheaper than most "civilized" countries in the world, and our son lives in Sydney so it is a goodmeeting place for all of us. We left the UK 6 years ago and currently live in Tunisia, much to the horror of family and friends. There are similarities between here and Thailand, the "who you know not what you know" prevails here. One big difference is that old European women shack up with young men not conversely as in Thailand. The most extreme example I have come across is 70 year old Brit with 26 year old local, ugh! These women think it is true love but we all know that money and a better lifestyle is the real reason. So, chaps, give Digger your honest answers, love or money.

Lets keep this thread to property leases please.

Will do Buksie,as the guy said you take your chance if you buy in Thailand, cannot say I have found my bit of paradise here in Argentina as I plan the settle back in Northern Norfolk between Hunstanton and Wells in a couple of years time after I am done travelling around South America and improving my spanish. Will probably buy a decent sized plot of land before I go in case I feel the urge to return.
England Croatia up now same time as Peru Argentina,Im watching just to make sure Luka Modric does not break a leg.
