Re: Thailand's dark side: why you really shouldn't visit Koh Tao
Silence? Oh the irony, As well as the ‘clip-clop’ of goats’ hooves clattering over his bridge, I’m also hearing another four-letter word beginning with C...

Re: How not to get sick on holiday in Thailand
oakdale160, I understood the current food safety thinking is not to wash raw chicken.
Also I find that chain breast meat, even if only initially zapped in a microwave oven, tends to go rubbery. (I’m seeing Benny Hill say that now.)

Re: NHS treatment back in the UK if resident in HH?
Probably not that relevant to this thread at this point p - or much comfort to us expats from the UK when we can’t get the NHS benefits for hutch we've paid our NI contributions - but just for some context I do think it's a bit of a red herring when your typical Daily Mail/Sun/Telegraph reader bangs...

Re: Liver Tonic
Turmeric is supposed to be a great liver healer, 'though apparently the dose would need to be fairly hefty to gain any benefit. Maybe worth researching on Google;naresh/dried cheap as chips here, e.g. Makro. What worked for me (though quite possibly placebo effect?) was milk thistle tablets. Somehow...

Re: Govt to increase alcohol tax again
Is the hike coming into effect from tomorrow? I thought it was today, but I stocked up on beer, wine and cigarettes at the usual prices at 12:00 in Tesco.

Re: Medical Insurance in Thailand or anywhere for that matter
Sad and horrified to read about your nephew's truly awful situation; I'm sure I speak for everyone here in wishing him the best possible recovery and strength to deal with this new chapter in his life. And thank you for giving me the nudge I need to to sort out insurance for myself. Dreading it, as ...

Is Endone 'banned' medication?
Hi, I've got a friend coming to Thailand who will need to bring his prescribed Endone tablets with him (for severe knee pain). He'll have a doctor's letter, but we're wondering if his stash could still present a problem at customs should he get searched (they're opiate based). Does anyone know what ...

Re: Gout, Arthritis or something else?
I know this isn't particularly helpful for gout-sufferers here, but perhaps something to bear in mind for the future if you have a painful gout attack and can get hold of a bag or two... Fresh cherries are supposed to be very effective in reducing gout symptoms. Anecdotal evidence perhaps, but I'd r...

Re: 2 bombs explode in Hua Hin town centre
I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to the amazing local emergency crews, who turned up to do what they needed to do, not knowing if another device would detonate while they helped the victims. Good on you. There were some lovely humane things happening amidst all the sh*t.

Rheumatologist in Hua Hin?
Hi, can anyone recommend a good rheumatologist in Hua Hin? I don't have medical insurance so will need to pay as I go. I'm hoping to find 'GP'-type ongoing support for medication and regular blood tests, but failing that I am wondering if the Bangkok Hospital or one of the others have rheumatologist...

Re: vitamins
Have taken daily milk thistle for years and years and so far so good. Hangivers not too severe. It's supposed to be even better if you get a high strength capsule combined with dandylion and the other 'de-tox' herbs. I do think it helps the old liver, though I suspect that I treat it as a licence to...

Lasting effects of a massage
Not sure where to post this, but it's got me thinking about what, if any, training gets given to the staff who work in the massage salons... While in Bintabaht my husband and I went for a foot massage. We tried a different salon (which I shan't name) this time and ended up booking an hour's session ...

Re: Sand Fly Prevention.
I know, it's nuts isn't it?! But because I get a severe reaction to sandfly bites that laugh in the face of milder repellents and I've already got thick, sun-abused skin (it looks like Yushchenko's after the dioxin attack), Bushman's doesn't seem to do any more damage to it - well, not in the short ...

Re: Sand Fly Prevention.
The sting of those miniature flying agents of evil give me grief for weeks after their actual assault and I've found the best thing was Bushmans insect repellent. It appears to destroy everything known to nature and I have seen it strip paint and melts plastic but it works. I bought some in Oz; not ...
