Re: King and Queen to move to Hua Hin

Yes they did arrive, there were thousands waiting to greet them. 500 policemen were deployed. We played golf with one of the bodyguards this afternoon and he told us the King is in good health.

Re: German fled via fire exit as guards slept

I know this incident has serious implications for airport security.

But I had to laugh a little bit.
Sounds like a combination of Keystone Cops and Mission Impossible.
It will be interesting to see if they catch this guy

Re: Bitten by unknown fly/insect..?

US - sounds like one of them disgusting horse flies.
Not sure if they have them in Thailand.
But used to get bitten a lot in Scotland, anywhere near fields or lochs.
Looked like a long fly, and left a real nasty bite that swelled up.

Re: Have You Quit Smoking?

I quit successfully for ten years, then after a nasty encounter with an elephant I had one cigarette and that was it, back to being a full-time smoker. Doesn't help working for a tobacco company and getting free cigs! When I stopped the second time, I had heard success stories about the Allen Carr b...

Re: English representation of Thai language sounds

For anyone who has an iPhone or iPad, there is a great FREE app called Learn Thai, designed by a company called Codegent. (They do lots of other languages too). http://www.codegent.com/apps It's a brilliant e- phrase book. You hit the English word and hear the word spoken in Thai. Divided into categ...

Re: Long-term expats and jabs.

Having lived in the Middle East for almost 20 years and visited Thailand on a regular basis since 2000, it has always been a dilemma whether or not to get the recommended jabs, as official sites recommend them for both locations. Apart from keeping Yellow Fever and Tetanus vaccinations up to date, I...

Re: Immigration cracks down on hotels

I thought we'd already established that this 24 hour reporting business (which is completely unrealistic in all sorts of scenarios in any case) was a load of nonsense. I've never done it, and I don't know anyone else who's ever done it, nor do I know anyone who has had any problems as a result of n...

Re: Immigration cracks down on hotels

So me putting my residence address on my Entry Card at the airport is all that is needed, right?

Re: Immigration cracks down on hotels

This could be (remotely) one of those instances where a Yellow Book could save someone. This assumes of course that government agencies talk to one another and agree to honour each others work. (Smilie for Dreaming!?) If a person is a resident here and returns to his dwelling where he's alr...

Re: Immigration cracks down on hotels

Are they suggesting that they know who all these "possible culprits" are? If they are so worried about them, why do they let them into the country in the first place? Surely with the photo scanning upon arrival at the airport, these culprits "disguised as tourists" (wearing what,...

Re: How much water do you need?

Dehydration can cause a lot of problems you wouldn't even think about. Unlike most people, I suffer from low blood pressure. Sometimes to the point that I feel faint. My doc told me keeping hydrated was important as it increases blood volume. So I started to drink a lot more water throughout the day...

Re: Two girls drown in Bangkok swimming pool

This is the most awful thing to happen to any parent. My heart goes out to the mother. The poor woman will never forgive herself for leaving her children unattended. A friend of mine lost her toddler in a drowning accident a couple of years ago. The child was having his afternoon nap and she went ou...

Damn it, those squats were a great work out for women, particularly for tightening up the thighs and the buttocks.

Is this a ploy to force us all to join the Gym? :naughty:

Re: Complete health check up

Hi AH, Apparently, New Bangkok Hospital will give you the full MOT for Baht 17,000 approx. You go there 7.30 am ish, spend about four hours, they do pretty much every test and will give you the results of everything same day before you leave. My mate did it in February and she was very impressed wit...
