Disposing of used batteries

Post by MajorBloodnok »

Hello, :)

I wonder if there are any collection points for used batteries. (In Germany all shops selling electrical appliances are obliged to accept used batteries.)

I bought a battery recharger before leaving for Thailand only to find out there do not seem to be any rechargeable batteries for sale.

Kind regards,

I might be wrong, but I'm sure I've seen rechargeable batteries here, maybe in the Kodak shops.

It depends on what size batteries you are asking about!

I doubt you will find any one who takes them back except for the few scrap dealers around and they will only be interested in car/truck batteries etc. Thailand is not the most environmentally friendly country around.

I was at a site office here a couple of months ago and at the reception desk there was a collection box for the safe disposal of batteries, AA's AAA's etc.

I have seen collection boxes like this in several other countries but it's the first time I have seen them here.

Next time I am there I will find out what happens to the batteries.

If there's money to be made, someone will be collecting them. Look how they go through bags of garbage and remove every single piece of plastic, paper, aluminum, tin, steel etc. I doubt if there are stats kept but to my eye this place is pretty efficient with recycling, at least on the initial end. It's been 6 years since used batteries were discussed.
Over the years many different small batteries have accumulated in our household.
Maybe somebody has found a place where the batteries can be disposed?

Have you ever done this before?
Or is that just a suggestion?

That's a big place. Can you give some clues about where on the ground floor? Searching on that image returned zero hits.

I haven't been there either.
The information came from Thrash Hero.
