So the headline should have actually been, "Sales of cars fell."

I don't change my car every 3-5 years (neither does my wife), they (cars) are looked after, serviced regularly and will run for years to come. WHY therefore are more and more cars required?

Maybe all those Asians with a whole family on a scooter would like a car as well.I don't change my car every 3-5 years (neither does my wife), they (cars) are looked after, serviced regularly and will run for years to come. WHY therefore are more and more cars required?

You'd need more roads.

Well yes, but that's neither the question or the argument... Who exactly are "those Asians" btw?
And likely another thread...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
I definitely believe that governments across the World are rushing the EV or nothing rules to fast and should possibly move back the no new ICE cars to purchase to 2040.
Having said that and despite being a dyed in the wool petrol head (owning several V 12 E Types and a diesel), EV ownership suits us just fine, especially as the range in our 2 new EV’s suit us just fine for the journeys we do because we have the ability to charge at home on cheap electric.
Millions who don’t have the ability to charge at home and are forced to pay huge costs per kWh on DC chargers are going to find owning an EV to be expensive, especially as most EV’s are expensive to purchase new.
The Chinese mean business and will flood the market until governments decide enough is enough and load their vehicle exports up with large tariffs to stem the flow.

I may not agree with your views on EV ownership @2/cb2/cb wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 8:16 pmI am guilty of being rude about battery cars, but not forum members who like them. I'm still reeling from the "Icehole" bit - despite the fact I don't park in "Charging Spots", I'm apparently in a new "Anti-Group" due to the fact that I can't afford to change my (ICE) car(s).... Oh dear.
But, what's the feeling of Musk visiting China for negotiations regarding "Driver-Assisted" software? The whole "Driverless" issue continues,
Shared Technology? The likes of BYD will continue to have Chinese Government support - the Chinese will always steal technology, what the feck is Musk doing?
but I of course support your right to post your views.

I don't, as his opinions are misleading and based on nothing but his bias of all things BEV.Khundon1975 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2024 3:48 am I may not agree with your views on EV ownership @2/cb

If someone was to recommend Toyota, most would state they have a solid reputation and you can't go wrong. But since an BEV ... it will be total junk, supplier bankrupt ... bla bla bla
And yet, owns a Toyota and speaks highly of. But now BEV production of their very popular, Hilux, best selling truck in TH, (they already do BEV SUV) will send them into bankruptcy
No contradictions there ...
... These vehicles will be off the road more than on
... They’ll be unreliable prone to fires
.., needing constant charging
... and the supplier will probably go bankrupt
I think the only accurate thing he has stated in this thread is ...
... "Yes I am a wind-up merchant."

If you want to do that on here, it's much easier being pro-EV than anti, you can just post news items!"Yes I am a wind-up merchant."

Most of what you say there is wrong. Different surveys give different figures but in at least some of them, EV's are only a little less reliable than ICE vehicles (and most of the problems are software-related rather than mechanical).2/cb wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 4:42 pmElectric pick-ups? "PATTAYA, Thailand – In a bid to revolutionize public transportation and combat pollution, Pattaya City took a significant step forward on April 25 with the official handover of electric pickup trucks, Hilux Revo-e, for trial service as Baht-Buses, locally known as the Song Taew."
You’re welcome.
According to data published in Top Gear magazine, EV's are about 20 times less likely to catch fire than petrol and diesel cars.

These Toyota EV pick ups don't have the longest range in the world, but with a range of around 220 km, they certainly won't need "constant charging."
And I don't think the supplier is all that likely to go bankrupt any time soon, since they're being supplied directly by Toyota as part of pre-production testing for this new model.
