Not a channel I use a lot, but I noticed the same problem a few weeks back. I've just gone back in to it to try for you, and it did say they've made improvements, and I needed to sign in again. I signed back in, but still nothing playing.

Seems as though they can detect the VPN - fortunately it’s not desperate!!

I use express vpn which in general downloads at reasonable speeds. However, this morning I downloaded a movie and forgot to load my vpn. The movie came down in less than a minute with speeds above 80 mbps. Luckily it was too quick for 3BB software to throttle it.
But it does show how much of an overhead vpn is.

On TOT I found that the VPN actually improved the download speeds - may be the opposite for 3BB though.

I’m with TOT but I find that everything slows down when I use the VPN - maybe it’s area specific?

I'm happy with express vpn which in general gives download speeds of more than 20 mbps and often more that double that. As pointed out in my previous post, 3BB has huge download speeds but after a short while, their software will throttle the download.
My comment was just to highlight the overhead when using a vpn. Well in my case anyway.

Hi,

Asking for a friend

My wife, :duck: sorry my friend's wife has been using Express VPN to watch UK soaps etc, for a number of years, however a few weeks ago it no longer worked. :(

It looks like BBC Iplayer and ITV have blocked services to anyone using a VPN??

Can anyone confirm this is the case, and if so, is there anyway around this?

P.S. Mods if this is in the wrong place feel free to move it.

I use Express VPN and it worked fine this morning - in the past when I have experienced problems the first thing to do is change the location - the UK has 5 locations and changing from one to another often works - when it doesn’t, the guys at ExpressVPN normally respond very quickly and help solve the issue - I’ve just tried the BBC 1 channel and it worked first time with my VPN set at UK-London.

PS. I’ve just tried ITV as well and although it was quite slow to load, it did start playing their live breakfast show.

Very similar experiences here. When the Beeb flaps about not being in the UK, just clear the browser cache, change VPN location to a different UK one, and restart the browser and all is well again. Another thing I've had to do on the Android TV box is set the time to UK time.

/\ agreed, I had to do the same, just change UK location.

Me too, when the regular buffering happens, switch UK locations, and it's usually sorted.

Hi

Thanks again for the replies! :thumb:

My friend's wife is able to watch her UK soaps again, so she's as happy as she gets .... :duck:

All a bit strange as a few weeks ago I did try changing all the UK Locations but with no luck. :?

Anyway, all sorted for now so thanks again.

I don’t recall experiencing this before, but I just tried to watch a programme on All4 on my iPad and I’ve never had a problem, but just now it said “not available in your region”.

My iPad is set up as though I’m in Thailand, although of course I use Express VPN set to the UK (London), but local Thai time. Having tried 2 or 3 different programmes I got the same message, so I tried setting the time to UK and the same programmes were watchable - a reminder for anyone experiencing similar problems

More and more web services have tools to detect VPN. Ip adresses used by VPN are well known because use often the same renge of numbers. It is just a question of time that all VPN can be detected by providers like tv , streaming services and so on.

Yep, also finding more and more places that don't like the VPN. Have had to set times to UK for the Beeb for a while now.
