Flying to/from Thailand (Covid Era)
Re: Flying to/from Thailand, latest updates
I read some time ago that a rapid test with certificate can be made at the airport.

I also used them, they were very accommodating. Perhaps ask them if they can do a faster turn around.Big Boy wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 9:55 amMr & Mrs BB jnr used them when they had Covid. My flight will likely be in the evening so a P.C.R. test on the same day would be required.

Faster turn around! Isn't 45 mins quick enough??migrant wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 12:10 pmI also used them, they were very accommodating. That's the time BeWell state for a rapid antigen test. It's less than an hour anywhere else. I suppose the only difference between the various hospitals/centres is their charges. I don't know BeWell's price. I can only state San Paolo's price of 500 baht.
Everyone is getting confused between a PCR test and a Rapid Antigen Test. It's the latter that's needed for the US.

Correct. I posted this earlier from the BeWell website. 45 mins is about right. As I said, the only difference would be price.
So far San Paulo - 500 baht
Be Well - 700 baht
Bangkok Hospital - 800 baht (but they only do it at certain times of the day.
Just spoke with my daughter's partner. He's currently returning to the US after a visit to Spain. He tells me that an antigen test in Spain has a time as short as 20 mins including certificate but the prices are way higher than in Thailand.

I think those of who have had to take a few antigen tests know it could be a lot faster than 20 minutes e.g. the turnaround time to get into Mitr Phol Stadium is about 5 minutes, including a doctors note and costs 150฿. It's all about how much you can pay, not how much it costs.

They're going to have to get to the point where we stop making these clinics rich. Self ATK test is just as accurate. You can label it with name/date and take a photo, or carry the actual device with you in a plastic bag to show to whoever may want to see it.

Re: Flying to/from Thailand, latest updates
I was quite (pleasantly) surprised that I was able to travel from Congo to Thailand without the requirement for any test..
Why is the U.S. still asking and the 24hr requirement is an added hassle. Most countries that still require testing are either 72hrs before departure or 72hrs before arrival. The latter being a real nightmare for extended long-haul flights.

Even the Americans are not at all happy:
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/05/19/trav ... s-cdc.htmlWhat’s Going on With the Testing Requirement for Travel?
The requirement to test for Covid before flying to the United States is hated by many travelers and the U.S. travel industry. But the government shows no sign of getting rid of it.
As countries, including Canada and Britain, have lifted their Covid testing requirements for vaccinated visitors in recent months, some Americans are irate that they still have to show a negative test to board a flight back to the United States.
Others argue that it doesn’t make sense to inconvenience so many people for a system that’s full of holes. Antigen tests — one option for travelers to the United States — are notoriously unreliable in the early stage of infection, said Anne Wyllie, a microbiologist at the Yale School of Public Health. For this reason she called the requirement “hygiene theater.”

“A senior administration official said the mandate expires Sunday at 12:01 a.m.”
Brilliant! I’m due to fly Monday.
They must have found out who I am….

Re: Flying to/from Thailand, latest updates
This thread has been useful as working for a Chinese company there is still a way to go. I have to get a PCR test before leaving Thailand and face self isolation before starting my next contract. All this despite being vaccinated but at least I get paid for the suffering.
