Budget hotels with a pool in Hua Hin
Re: pool
Its about a 10 minute walk to the night life. However, Sundance was (not sure if it still is) a part of San Paulo Hospital. It lay abandoned for many years. It was originally put together as more of a place to convalesce (hence the wellness residence). Having said that, my wife has used their massage services, and has been very pleased.gazbif wrote:I,ve found a hotel on the web called the sundance wellness residence by san paulo hospital.950 baht a night with pool ,but i,m not to sure if it,s walking distance to the nightlife.
Just thought I'd better warn you in case it was not what you were looking for.

When were you there last ??
Have stayed there a number of times of a few years and no problems with guests.
I've stayed in the adjoining buildings i.e. on the way into the car park. The rooms are bigger and slightly dearer but you are not hassled by reception. When I stayed there last time I rarely gave up my key to one of the rooms in that building. Just come and go as you please.

thehamok,
As I've commented on 2 hotels, we need to clarify which hotel you are talking about. Based on what you have written, I am presuming that you mean the Subhamitra Hotel, and I am responding as such. If you meant the Sundance, I'm sorry - please ask again.
I can't remember the date I last stayed at the Subhamitra, but I do remember that it was the same time as the Bali Bombings. I realise TIT, but I've said on this forum several times before, if somebody gives me bad service, rather than stand there and complain vigorously, my way is to let them know what I believe is wrong. If I don't get a positive response I vote with my feet, and never return again.
Thailand is a tourists market, and if you don't get what you want there's plenty of choice - just relocate to somewhere that appreciates your custom. Absolutely no point ranting at the hired help who probably only understand 50% of what you're saying anyway.
Normally we rent a house for a month. For some reason, we were only visiting for 10 days, and were on a tight budget - hence the Subhamitra (which had been fine on previous occasions, but well down market when compared with what you could get for the same money in Pattaya). On this occasion, the staff wanted extra money because we took our 3 year old Grand daughter (who lives in Hua Hin) to our room during the day. First thing that got to me was if they wanted the same money as guests were being charged for taking bar girls to their room, what did they think we were taking a 3 year old girl to our room for. I don't remember how the conversation went, but I know that we refused to pay.
Later in the afternoon, we went down to the pool. My wife and I were allowed in to the water, my grand daughter had to sit at the side of the pool. Well that was not going to happen either.
The next day, my daughter brought our grand daughter to the hotel for us to do our grand parents thing again. She was turned away - we left, never to return again.

Thanks for your quick reply and comments.
As I said I've stayed there a number of times.
I stayed in the hotel proper first time and it was ok.
Next times I stayed in the seperate part.
I never had any trouble with anyone coming back to the room day or night.
The staff could be a little more cheerful at times but the way I looked at it I was only asking them for my key to the room when I stayed in the hotel proper. When I stayed in the seperate building I just kept my key and came and went as I wished. They never asked me for the key either.
Yes I agree with you if you get any hassle at all then vote with your feet. There are plenty of other places to stay.
I wonder if anyone else on this board have had similar problems to yours and maybe theyd let us know.

I view it the same as the bib in their quest for tea money. Most people go through their daily business unaffected. When somebody is singled out, they feel victimised.
I had stayed there previously on a couple of occassions with no problems (I've never been in a position to try out their 'standard' guest policy. On the occassion I've been talking about, it was my turn to provide the tea money - the rest is history.
