Mercy House Orphanage in Pranburi
Mercy House Orphanage
“And so this is Christmas, For weak and for strong, For rich and the poor ones”…. Lyric courtesy late John Lennon.
And that says it all… Christmas is a time of giving, but lets not limit it to immediate family, friends, etc. Members following the thread for the Mercy House Orphanage kids will already know of the invaluable contributions in time and donations made by a core number of people committed to supporting these extraordinary children and their equally extraordinary “parents”, Khun Wichai and Khun Whanpen. For those HHAD members with children, expand your family to 23 and you can imagine the cost of food, clothing, schooling, accommodation, etc on a daily basis… it’s continual struggle to ensure the kids have the potential in life and sense of family they were denied at the start.
Barry Stone, of Mermaid Cruises, is one of the core people supporting the Orphanage’s needs and is hosting the Christmas party this year for the kids on 26 December at their marina in Paknampran from around 1pm onwards. If you have some baht to spare, have a present or two for under the tree, or simply wish to attend to celebrate with the kids (and a cold beer!), you are most welcome to contact through HHAD. We are also endeavoring to cover the cost of new polo shirts for the kids and a digital camera to record their public performances, (there are few at major hotels over Christmas, check the hotels for details) which supplements their income in spare time.
It’s also probably important to note that Mercy House is a Christian orphanage, not Buddhist, and receives no support from the Thai government. I have known these kids for over 18 months now, and I assure you 5 minutes with them will restore your faith in humanity… they are the most engaging, unassuming and delightful two legged creatures I have had the pleasure to meet.
Feel free to contact if you can be of any assistance.
Have a very, very, merry Christmas… Allan & Sean

Many thanks to Suzanne and Amanda (from whom we adopted the abandoned kitten, Noi, which they rescued).
They called to say that would come on the day of the party to visit the kids (and Noi), help with the preparations and bring a few presents with them for under the tree.
Thank you very much to you both

Hi mo1
It's great that you would like to donate.
It's up to you how - you can either buy some presents or give cash.
If you're not sure what to buy, then we'll happily take the money and pass it on directly to the orphanage.
It would be really good to see you at the party.
Here are the directions to our places from an earlier positing on this thread:
Directions to Mermaid Cruise restaurant/ofice in Hua Hin for leaving donations:
Go towards the Fishing Pier and turn right at the Buffalo Tavern.
Walk along 120m and we're on the left directly opposite the Ciao ice cream parlour, which is next to the "Monsoon".
Our place is called Crepes&Cruises and there are lots of boat signs at the front.
Directions to Mermaid Cruises Marina at Paknampran (venue for the party):
Drive south from Hua Hin over the flyover.
Pass the turning to Kao Tao (soi 101) and continue on past a ready-mix concrete plant on the left and then turn left (there's an overhead sign there to Pak Nam Pran).
Go over the railway line and then fork right.
Continue approx. 5 km, then turn left (there is no left turn possible before this).
Drive 500 metres, then turn left again.
Continue approx. 3 km, passing the old marina on your right.
Turn right into our place immediately after the S bend.
We hope to see you on Saturday

Thanks a lot for the extra help D-M!!
Well only 2 days to go to the big Mercy House Orphanage Christmas Party ...
... so I thought I'd give a summary of how it's going so far:
Already reported on this thread so far are the contributions from JD, London Boy, dtaii-maii, Buffalo Bill, panovtours, Terry, Georgy and Magnus.
In the last few days we've also received further generous contributions from:
Mojo, who left a big bag full of individually wrapped presents and an envelope containing 3000 baht.
Buksida, who transferred 2000 baht to our account.
Suzanne, Amanda, Karen & Friend, who are coming to help and bringing individually wrapped presents for each of the 25-26 kids and their guardians.
Mick France, who has given us free use of his beautiful new speedboat plus fuel to take everyone on a trip after dinner and also contributed 2000 baht in cash.
Also, Steve, Jim and John from George's bar are coming on Saturday and bringing presents with them.
And last but not least, Sealcat (Allen & Sean), who have done and continue to do lots for Mercy House.
They are making their own personal contribution (presents for all the kids), coordinating the party with us and together we are ensuring that everything else needed for the party will be provided so that all the cash collected can be presented to the orphanage on Saturday.
Sean & Allen have also donated the digital camera that the orphanage needs and Mermaid Cruises is donating the equivalent in cash.
This means that, at present, we will be able to present a total of 40,000 baht to Mercy House on Saturday after the Christmas party.
So far, we know of about 15 visitors coming to help, donate and celebrate with us.
If anyone else would like to contribute/participate in any way, you are still very welcome - the more the merrier in every respect.
Also many thanks to my own staff, cook and crew who are giving up their day off to ensure that the whole event runs smoothly.
Finally, many thanks to my gf Tan for doing all the running around, putting up with all of us, being the mainstay of the contact relationship/coordination with Mercy House and smiling through it all.
A million thanks to all of you who are making this possible

Re: Mercy House Orphanage in Pranburi
That is a great little newsletter for Mercy House.
Good to see all the children happy and engaged in useful pastimes with other children.
The budget for various items must be difficult to attain each month, so good luck to Mr. Wichai and Mrs. Wanpen.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

Hi Barry
I havent been on here for a while but would have been happy to have helped with your trip with the children. If at anytime in the future you there is anything planned and an extra pair of hands would help, I am usually available and live here all year. I have tones of experience of working with children.
Shall I PM you my phone number?

Anybody knows if Mercy House in Pranburi is still running ?
If you want to make your dream come true, the first thing you have to do is to wake up.
