New Tesco Lotus
A brand new Tesco Lotus supermarket will be opening in Pranburi shortly.
It's on the left of the main road travelling south, at the traffic lights opposite the Police, Amphoe, Driving Licence offices.

Does this mean Hua Hin has reached maximum acceptable capacity or are they just trying to drive the market up.
The choice of locations especially on Highway 4 seem very strange for both Tesco and Big C.
Big C have Bangkok, Petchaburi and then nothing until Surat. Tesco have, Bangkok, Hua Hin, now Pran Buri, and Lang Suan before Surat. Lang Suan is in the middle of nowhere and Pran Buri is very close to Hua HIn.
Why don't they open in places like Prachuap and Chumporn.
I wonder that if both chains have an agenda that does not involve selling food. Seems like some kind of Euro fiddle.
The British and the French must be the world's leaders on international tax avoidance.

Hi there Y'all !!!
Someone in Hua Hin is spinning heavily the rumour mill that Tesco Hua HIn will close in order to have a one Branch which serves two Cities Hua HIn and Pranburi
The Woman who lives next door to our small House that my aunt had rented out has told us about the rumour.
She told us that Major Cineplex Hua Hin is closing down as well and that the whole MArket Village thing would go down the drain and was a failiure from the beginning.
Time for some rumour debunking
Well I highly doubt that market Billage is going downhill when I was there their still in the middle of extending the third floor.
It's also doubtfull that Tesco will close. considering the traffic that goes in and out of it. They need every store outside the UK to add up for Tax breaks as Mr. Guess had mentioned .
and that the whole Market Village is going south is simply plain BullSh*** and was spread by the local PTA and some still upset parents who simply can't stand that a Mall had opened right aside their HUa Hin Vithiyalay/Salesian School and theiy are still afraid of them KIds will flunk School and do other things @ the adjacent Mall instead.
The End of rumour debunking!!!

And apart from that the Tesco commitment would be at least five years if not ten. Only copious quantities of cash or a worldwide collapse could get them out.
Even the over priced stalls outside were tied until annual contracts.

This is even worse than the Market Village being next to Salesian School than bars in Soi Bintabat and the rest of the adjacent Sois can be seen from Tesaban Elementary School's (next to Huahin temple) windows.
Yes... most of the bars are closed in day time but still there are bar girls during early mornings (when classes start) and in the afternoons who are coming out of the bars and some drunk farangs throwing up their guts.
Just my opinion...not a good sighting for our youths..What do u think?
Ok back to Tesco..as long as they keep the Major Cineplex..or maybe the entire area of Market Village...new Major Cineplex?with movies showing in English..(like in Bkk most cinemas playing a movie both in Eng and Tha with subs as well!)I think movie owners are paying more for western movies dubbed in Thai and the profit is ONLY a little bit more than a movie that is not dubbed!
HUAHIN IS HOME OF MANY EXPATS AND TOURISTS! GET SOME ENGLISH MOVIES REGULARLY..PLS.

Hi there It's me again!
Supermann may I quote you [quote]This is even worse than the Market Village being next to Salesian School than bars in Soi Bintabat and the rest of the adjacent Sois can be seen from Tesaban Elementary School's (next to Huahin temple) windows.

This makes the Village Market vs. Salesian PTA case looks kind of silly compared what the Tetsaban School is facing behind their back yard litterly.
Those parents are who are bitching about Market Village should be greatfull that they hav a one stop location to pick up them kids, and give them Food @ the Food court while them Kids are grubbng Mom can go Shop for Groveries. than go HOme.
HHtel you say you heard that rumour too about a fallout between the Owner of Hua Hin Market Vilage and Tesco and their lease contract would not be newed and they's be KIcked out?
I f theire's really an issue there I think it would go all the way to court and the Legal Team of Tesco Lotus would go all out to pick up a Victory.
Lets say if Tesco/Lotus is leaving Hua Hin what do you think would go inside that huge retailspace intead? Carrefour or even Foodland?
I still have a Strong doubt that Tesco is to leave but in this highly uncertain world which anything can happen that this (worst case ) senarioo can as well happen!!!

I intend to live forever - so far so good.
Mr. Norseman,
I just set Tetsaban School vs Soi Bintabat's bars as an example compared to The Market Village vs Salesian School case.
Like what Understudy says "SILLY".Maybe make Mr. Norseman part of your "studies" Understudy!
It could only be 'THREE THINGS"
1.Mr. Norseman is a parent of a student in Tetsaban School and he is one of those farangs or Thais coming out of the bars early in the morning being seen by students.
2. Mr. Norseman is an alumnus of Tetsaban School and he witnessed the same scenes and grew up not knowing the word 'IMMORALITY'
3. He prefered to stay a bachelor and Soi Bintabat is his second home.
BUT DON'T GET ME WRONG, NOT ALL BARS IN SOI BINTABAT AND ADJACENT SOIS SHOWING IMMORALITY.I HAVE FRIENDS WHO OWNS BARS THERE.
This is only my own opinion;Tetsaban School doesn't mind the scenery because being the Municipal School of Huahin (hence the name in Thai)they get massive taxes from the bars, so closure is IMPOSSIBLE!
What if its the other way around.TETSABAN SCHOOL IS NEXT TO MARKET VILLAGE AND SOI BINTABAT'S BARS NEXT TO SALESIAN SCHOOL??(take not salesian is a Catholic School)just asking..any comments (that makes sense!) anyone?
Sorry guys in diverting this topic.I'm branching it out!

Agreed there with Understudy - if anyone had the nerve to try to give Tesco the boot it would go to court. And Tesco would probably win.
I don't see anything strange or sinister in Tesco's choice of locations in the Pratchuap/Pranburi area. What IS sinister is the way they just keep on and on opening new stores, whether Super or Express, and the problem isn't confined to Thailand.
Last September a Tesco Superstore opened bang in the centre of Hull, despite the Council already having stated that no more superstores would be allowed for x years. Early June another opened here in Sleepy Hollow - just 30 minutes away from the Hull one by bus. This was followed by a Tesco Express half way between the two, on a 2 mile or so stretch of road which already had one Tesco Express, with another on a side road nearby.
OK - I do think the Express stores are a different animal, and can often serve a local community in much the same way as the old Co-ops did in the UK. The one on Petkhasem Rd opposite Thai Farmers was very handy for a 'one stop shop' now and then. But you have to wonder.
Word on the Sois seems to be that in HH at least Tesco aren't pulling the marketing stunts like they do in the UK, ie undercutting local traders until they are forced to close, then upping their prices. They are also in constant battle here with Asda, who are seen as the main threat to the global takeover!
My biggest issue with both Tesco and Asda though is their introduction of self service checkouts, which I will not use on principle. But if you dare to ask the staff whether they agree with their jobs being taken away by machines the response is a blank 'D'oh?'
IMHO until shoppers start to vote with their feet - and wallets - the rise of Tesco can only continue.
