Who should be the next England manager?

Arsene Wenger is a very good coach and has a good knowledge of the English game but he would never accept the position of England coach. You only have to look at the Arsenal squad to see what he thinks about home grown English talent

It could easily be argued that the coach who has made the biggest impact on the premier league this season is the one and only Sven

He has obviously proved to be a very good coach, so why did he not suceed with England? The players!!!

Far be it from me to tell you how to sort out your team, but rather than continue with the managerial merry-go-round IMHO you need to sort out your players. It must have been embarrassing watching some of these guys pretending to be international class football players

If that really is the best you've got, then no coach in the world will be able to deliver success, not even Alex McLeish

Whoever the brave man is he has to accept that the job will probably mean the kiss of death for his future career. Mourinho, Rednapp, Mcleish and Sam the Man are out because they speak their minds and the men in grey suits cannot handle that. They have to change the men at the top before they choose the Manager, after all it was those halfwits who put McLaren there in the first place..

My vote goes to he with zero Management experience - Alan Shearer, though it's a bit risky putting a Geordie in charge of anything.

The problem with Erickson, I believe, was one of motivation and lets see how the season pans out before heaping praise on him. Chelsea spanked City very easily recently.

If you want a winner who knows how to motivate players and gets them to play to the best of their ability, then Mourinho is an obvious candidate.

I just have a hunch they will go for Redknapp. No idea why?

Paul Ince is shouting for Hoddle and he did a good job whilst in charge. If Ince keeps progressing as he is, he could be a future candidate.

Alan Shearer... hmmm. Probably as good a manager as Bobby Charlton, Bryan Robson, Alan Ball and various other England heroes. It's like any other job, a good performer and a good manager need different qualities and abilities. Just because you can do something well doesn't mean you can teach it and inspire/manage others.

I'm not convinced by Mourinho at Chelsea - given the money at his disposal it would have been hard to fail. He still managed to get the boot.

Nor am I remotely interested in the nationality of the manager, any more than some international teams are interested in the nationality of the players. I'm sure rob c was joking, but I think England could do a lot worse than Martin Jol.

Martin O'Neill is probably my first choice.

Of course, that assumes he (or anyone else worth having) wants the job.

I'd be happy with Mourinho or Redknapp, Wont happen for reasons stated above.

I think Ince would do a better job than Mclaren has, he'd certainly put a bit a bit of passion into the squad. I live 20 mins from Macclesfield and have seen first hand what he did for them. Again wont happen for obvious reasons, for now.

Shearer, Mr Dull in interviews but he certainly had alot to say after last nights debacle. Did well as Captain. I dont see that England need a Benitez/Mourinho/Wenger tactician, they just need a kick up the arse and maybe he could do that.

morinho would be a good choice ,but i cant really see the fa letting him have a free role,think they are more inclined to choose a yes man thats why they chose mc laren the whole fa need to be cleared out and some young blood brought in ,and then maybe some new ideas would surface,england certainly has the players given the right manager i think they would maybe qualify next time

look a little deeper don, arsenal have more representatives at schoolboy, youth, under 19 & under 21 level than any other club in england. he just won't pay inflated fees for overated players.
why pay near on £20 million for players like hargreaves, carrick, bent ??? when you can get fabregas, van persie, gilberto, toure & co for next to nothing?

back to the topic, an english manager would be preferable. redknapp, pearce (doing a great job with the under 21's) or coppell.
if a foreign manager, wenger would be first choice all day long followed by mourinho, scholari & capello.
there are a lot of talented players in england but we need someone to motivate them & get them playing in a style suited to the modern game.
last night was like watching football from the 70's, played at a snails pace, relying on a big boot to the beanpole up front, hoping for a flick on. it was embarassing

With most of the best 'international' managers busy until next autumn, I think they should wait until the championships are over, and see who else becomes available.

Maybe give Pearce temporary duties over the friendlies England will be playing until that time.

The last thing needed is to rush in and take on a Harry Redkrapp type.
