Naturist beach

Post by Benedictus »

Ok, my first post here on this great site.

Wife and I normally visit Greek Islands in the summer, but next
year we want to try something new, and we found HH to be the place.

To shorten the story down - regarding beaches (Greece), we normally rent
a jeep and seek out remote spots, where we can sunbath and swim naked, without offending anyone.

Next year the concept if different - staying at Sofitel with a pool
(been in Greece 8 times without a pool - the sea is much better :D )
and a public beach 50 m away, we will be dressed properly - no problem.

But - and here comes the newbie-question: Is it possible and safe
to find a spot near (near includes to take the bus or whatever) HH,
where you can nude bathing ?

We are naturists and dont want to offend, so thats, why im asking.

Sorry, but that is just not possible. That would be offending the Thai culture.

Please no!
The Thais are outwardly accepting and forgiving folk. This will offend.
I've seen the Thais and their response on Samui to skinny dipping by foreigners. The locals were inwardly really hurt .They were concerned the local spirits would cause them all sorts of strife if this was let go on.
And, over time, these sort of things do add up against foreigners .

And the other way round -
My wife and I were back in the UK for a month earlier this year. One day, we went to Cambridge and canoed the upper river to Grantchester.
It's really quiet up there and really only fishermen and ramblers. But we came around a bend in the river at "a million miles an hour" and surprised a nudist colony.
The women covered their breasts, the men covered their private parts and ran behind a hedge.
Classic. but it was my wife's reaction to all this this that still remains with her to this day - farang ding dong.
Don't do it.

The title of this thread coupled with the fact that Lomu was the last poster has kept me away so far. Eventually curiosity got the better of me. It was such a relief when I read it.

How old is your wife and is she a looker?

My house is very secluded, with private access to the sea. No danger you will be seen here by any Thais, other than my wife, and she quite enjoys seeing naked Western women, as do I. :D

Case in point

Post by Hublet »

Back in 2005 there was a case where a man staying at the Hilton boldly walked down to the beach - stripped - and walked into the water. Everyone was stunned. He swan for a while and by the time he came out of the water (and after getting dressed again) there they were waiting. Your nicked sunshine. Bye Bye.

According to my Thai friends no one, including the police, will approach someone who is nude or bare chested and will wait until the person is again covered no matter how long that takes because they are so embarrassed by it.

Please respect the sense and sensibilities of the Thai people.

Thanks for the answers - its good with a board like this,
where you can ask beforehand. Better be safe than sorry.

But i get the idea that some of you guys misunderstood.

Question was, if it was possible to find a remote, deserted
spot for nude bathing ? When a spot is deserted there is
no one to be offended.

I was not talking about being naked in front of the hotel
- God forbid.
In Greece we often have driven hours on dirt tracks to lay on rocks
- just to make sure we didnt offend the locals.

Just mention it to set things i perspective.

In Greece - where nude bathing is forbidden, and where you
will offend seriously, if you do it on almost any public
beach - its tolerated at deserted spots (greek naturists seek
out those places aswell) - so thats why i asked.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well - forgive me for this: But generally speaken its a bit
ironical that things that goes on in many contexts (Go-Go Bars, etc)
at many popular touristsplaces in Thailand - and with participation
of thousands of Thais - is accepted, but a descrete nude bathing
would be offending the Thai cultur..?

At this very board i have seen threads about where to get a massage
with "xtras" or "happy ending".
There is even a "Private members only area" with "discussion on topics of a more adult nature".

Does that goes hand in hand with "Thai cultur" of do one sense a
bit of double standard here ?

A bit polemical, yes - but just asking out of curiosity - as said, me and
wife are new to this part of the world and wanna learn.
And no hidden agenda here.

I'm sure there are remote, deserted spots anywhere in the world, but if we all knew of them, they wouldn't be remote & deserted, would they? Rather than asking, best to rent a car & go looking. All the members are stating is that nudity does offend the Thai culture & if someone does happen to see you, you will embarrass them & you may find yourself being arrested.

As for the "double standards" of nudity vs the sex industry in Thailand, this has been discussed ad infinitum, with everybody having their own views. My personal view is privacy is the key. Even go-go bars and massage parlours operate discretion - and those bars with "special acts" probably find themselves paying very large backhanders for a blind eye to be turned. There are no places like that here.

Privacy also applies to the private members' area here. You have to apply for permission to enter (after a requisite number of meaningful posts) & once there you can hardly complain about what you see (apart from the fact it's a lot tamer than people seem to imagine!) Same if you go to a go-go bar or request any services from young ladies. You enter with an intention, you know what to expect. This is why members are so adamant you shouldn't go nude on a beach. Regardless of your views on nudity, this is not your or my country. A Thai coming across you unwittingly would be embarrassed and offended. So, really, it's best to save this for other countries with a more liberal (to nudity) culture.

Ben Just my 2 euros worth but Thais do not even bathe in swimming costumes they put jeans and shirts over the top and then go in the water and yes it is hard to put the 2 standards together even for the likes of us that live here
Showing just the soles of your feet is offensive to thais in some situations
Remote and secluded, you have to understand there are fishing boats only 100/200 yards of the beach all day and night all along the coast it would be very difficult IMO to find such a place and you could waste a lot of your holiday looking for one
I am sure when you see the looks the thais give to 50/60 year old 15 stone european women in bikinis you will understand
Just a tip Bumigrad hospital is very good and very cheap for the removal of skin cancers
Come enjoy and please keep yor kit on :D :D :D

Below is all I could find about this subject concerning Thailand, or in all of tropical Asia for that matter. Pete

Just to raise some points about safety. You will find that even on remote Beaches there are going to be people around (even though you may not see them). Bearing in mind what has happened in such places as Samui with local Fishermen, probably not a good idea for your wife to be naked. Also bear in mind that there are now a lot of migrant Burmese workers around who commit various crimes and then can easily do a runner back to Burma.

Ben, if you read through the "Violence and mai pen rai thread" you will begin to get a sense of the contradictions that can make Thailand such a difficult to place for the westerner to understand. You cannot apply western logic to the way most things work. You need to accept that nudity will offend your hosts and you need to assume that you will be seen wherever you are. Just as you dont go to Thailand for its Mexican food, so dont go for naturism. It is our privilege to visit, stay to live in such a marvellous place and incumbent on us to respect the country for what it is. As everyone has said, come and enjoy it but keep your kit on. And the more you understand about the Thai way, the more you will enjoy your trip.

Sums it up perfectly! We should also mention the fact that is against the law!

first off, i dont wish to encourage anyone to take their kit off in public places, but in case you are coming here with the intention of finding a quiet spot, the answer is yes, all along the coast down by prachuap khiri khan, you will find any number of remote, quiet beaches.

BUT BUT my friend

these areas are very dangerous, getting robbed or raped is not at all an uncommon event, my wife and friends thought i was crazy wanting to walk along a quiet beach alone.

If you most come here, please keep your kit on for all our sakes :-)

Might bump in to you when i am out walking a deserted beach
