Great New Thailand Thrillers

Post by seasides »

case you havent read bangkok eight and bangkok tattoo yet.

written by john burdett they both give great insights into local culture and things we will never understand, even after living here for decades.

burdett has a drastically funny and honest language - both books a kind of eye opener and page turners.

enjoy!

I've read 8, enjoyed it, left it somewhere on my travels, not one I would keep for further reading. I'll get around to Tattoo in due course.

Both got reasonable reviews in the UK, I would question, however, what they really teach me about life in Bangers?

Can't they just be good yarns and left at that?

it goes without saying that there was intended exageration in my comment.

but read through all those bangkok/thailand thrillers, this very one brings that radical pragmatism of thais in the most credible and enjoyable form to read yet.

his explanation of the milieu is to the point, whereas others such as moore seem to rather observe than be part of what they're writing about.

me looking forward to the third book of that john.

Hi matthew, Bangkok 8 was published a few years ago and Bangkok tattoo last year. I don’t know if you would find them in a bookshop in Canada, but they are available on Amazon.com

Are there any books about Hua Hin or the surrounding area, or would I be best to find a book on Thailand?

I think perhaps start with one about Thailand entitled "Culture Shock". Go to Amazon.com and type it in and you'll see the details. Don't know where you are so if you can't buy from them, at least you'll have the reference.

While there, type in their search facility for Hua Hin or anywhere else in Thailand and see what comes up. Pete
