Re: Menu/food prices rising in Thailand
Oh dear. I've tried three in Bangkok (but not the one way out in Thonglor) and have found them all excellent for food and very good for service (I compare service with Dubai so I can never be completely satisfied nowdays). The one in Phuket was also top class. It's just that the price matches!caller wrote: ↑Tue Jul 22, 2025 8:04 pmIf you visit El Gaucho in Thonglor, you might reverse your opinion!404cameljockey wrote: ↑Tue Jul 22, 2025 5:50 pm If you want good (not great) non-Thai beef steak at a fair price the new Daddy Deli in Hua Hin is a good bet. You can find plenty of places selling good value food just out of the centre of Hua Hin.
I live out in Hin Lek Fai anyway so it’s often far quicker to drive out of the city to eat rather than into it if you take into account traffic.

Have you tried Daddy Deli? I've been to both and endorse Cameljocks opinion. Daddy Deli is up there without the inflated BKK prices. Had a friend visit recently from BKK who knows a good steak. He was blown away by the quality at DD. We ended up eating there 3 nights on the trot.caller wrote: ↑Tue Jul 22, 2025 8:04 pmIf you visit El Gaucho in Thonglor, you might reverse your opinion!404cameljockey wrote: ↑Tue Jul 22, 2025 5:50 pm If you want good (not great) non-Thai beef steak at a fair price the new Daddy Deli in Hua Hin is a good bet. Me? Yes. And your point is exactly what I was saying. CJ stated that DD fell short when compared to the El Gaucho chain in Bkk. I stated that wan't my opinion, based on having eaten at El Gaucho in Thonglor (central Bkk). El Gaucho was very good, but DD, I thought was much better (than Thonglor).
It could be even better if they improved their list of sides and provided Dijon mustard! But that's just me.

Re: Menu/food prices rising in Thailand
caller, I actually meant to say that the steaks at Daddy Deli fell very slightly short, and it's a minor quibble. Everything else is exemplary. Thanks for giving me the chance to clarify.
Pricewise I believe it's a firm winner in the top category, and hopefully will peg back any intentions of competitors in raising prices.
Off topic: yes the list of sides isn't huge, El Gaucho come up trumps there (also not charging for a little hot English mustard on the side; it's actually a priced item at DD!).

Re: Menu/food prices rising in Thailand
^Anyway, for those going around eating at top end steak restaurants, have the prices gone up?
I must admit that in Thailand’s climate, eating huge chunks of meat doesn't suit my digestion.

Hi all, I have eaten at DD nummerous times and been a loyal customer of El Gauchos in Thailand and Vietnam and must algree that DD is good but in my opinion not in the same league as El Gauchos. It must be said that El Gauchos is at least double the price.

I was disappointed last time I ate at El Gaucho in Sukhumvit 19. Having been there a couple of years ago I was very pleased, but this time not so much. If I should compare the last time in El Gaucho with DD which I frequent a lot, I would prefer DD. Also DD is cheaper.

That's interesting, but you didn't say why. Obviously each restaurant in a chain has it's own manager and staff. Suk.19 is the one I've frequented most over the years but a couple of times each in Langsuan and Soi 11. I see that 19 is still getting five star reviews this year on Tripadvisor. Did you have gristle in your steak or an untrained waiter? Different things trigger different people, and for the price they charge everything should be faultless.huahin4ever wrote: ↑Thu Jul 24, 2025 7:30 am I was disappointed last time I ate at El Gaucho in Sukhumvit 19. PS - many half price steaks on one day every month if you're on their mailing list.
Re: Menu/food prices rising in Thailand
Do you know the charcuterie?? I am planning to buy some steaks there... 'importing' from Bangkok seems a little overdone
Re: Menu/food prices rising in Thailand
^I haven’t been there yet but it’s not far from me and a Thai lady I know who works there was showing me pictures of what they do and it looks exceptional.
I don’t have time left now but maybe someone could try it and give a review, it’s called Baan Fostier.

Always enjoyed Daddy Deli but when I want a steak I usually cook it at home. Got the system down to preparing it how I like it. After mixed results buying expensive meats around here I now buy from Bangkok and have it shipped here. Never had a problem, or a bad piece of meat, from them.

Are you maybe talking about the company that is on Facebook as Bangkok Beef? Would be nice if you share your source. An American friend uses them a lot and swears by them for great imported meat at a good price.migrant wrote: ↑Thu Jul 24, 2025 3:59 pm Always enjoyed Daddy Deli but when I want a steak I usually cook it at home. Re: Menu/food prices rising in Thailand
I do/did that as well, but trying Baan Fostier first (thanks Steve) price is more attractive and no shipping cost added. I will pick it up and have a lookmigrant wrote: ↑Thu Jul 24, 2025 3:59 pm Always enjoyed Daddy Deli but when I want a steak I usually cook it at home.
