AP Interfoods closing

Post by Houdi »

I was in AP Interfoods yesterday.

Half the fridges were turned off and most of the shelves were almost empty although some of the freezers were still stocked.

I asked if they were closing and was told "Yes - in February".

It's a great shame as I have used them for some considerable time.

Be aware that they are still posting items on Facebook even though they may not have them.

I did suggest that they stop the Facebook activity as it was misleading. I had gone there to shop for several items that I falsely assumed were in stock.

Cheers

Shame, also used to use the place. I guess with all the post-Covid price hikes for imported food, their market has become much more niche.

Yes a real shame. I've used them since they started, when you had to take off your shoes to go inside.

They should definitely stop normal advertising as it sounds like they are just undertaking a 'closing down sale' to sell their remaining stock, and replace it with something more honest.

I stopped using them months ago when I noticed the stock had declined, and asked if they would be gertting any more of certain items and was told no. Then they placed an advert on fb about undertaking local deliveries, so I assumed they were back in business, so I had another look and I was in and out in 30 seconds without buying anything as nothing had changed.

The flip side is that I finally visited Nanys as a result and realised it carried everything I wanted and more. So that was a bonus.

I've used both for many years, and liked AP for unusual items, and I preferred some of their frozen stuff, for example the selection of sausage flavours was amazing. On the other hand Nany's fresh sausage rolls were a favourite but they've changed away from really flaky pastry now.

I simply boycotted the place after the boss gave my wife an almighty bollocking during Covid for not wearing a mask. At the time she was mask exempt because of breathing difficulties. He didn't ask if there was a reason, or even simply ask her to leave. He just gave it both barrels. As such, I couldn't care less about the shops demise - they lost my custom a few years ago.

I agree it takes away some alternative choices and personal favourites - picked onions in my case, not that they were great, but the best on offer. But as I don't care for the Manston/Marston sausages much in any case (don't eurodeli sell these?), that wasn't an issue for me. I do recall trying one sausage that included sage and red onion, that was a favourite from one of my local butchers in Hungerford, and I hated them. Never good to compare really.

I haven't tried Nany's sausage rolls, but I notice they sell Greggs (frozen)!

I prefer Ham & Bacon or Andreannas sausage rolls, but I guess it's down to personal preference.

Yes, I'm quite happy with both of those, but Nany's look tempting as well!

Edit: I did wonder if Andreannas made them, as they are not dissimilar in appearance.

The proof is in the eating. They may look alike, but taste varies a lot. I won't say which one is best because tastes vary, but for me, I do not like Nanys sausage rolls - you may love them though.
