Car Satnav Systems

Post by Big Boy »

Following the devastating news about Google Maps being 'improved' to make it unfit for use today viewtopic.php?t=40221 , I've started looking for a dedicated replacement.

I was expecting to see all of the old favourites such as Garmin for sale - nope. A bunch of brands I've never heard of before. I drilled down on a couple, and despite having menus in English, navigation language was Thai - no good to me.

I'm looking for a suitable replacement that actually gives instruction in English. Does anybody have any recommendations please? Oh, and a very big screen - the biggest draw back with Google Maps was the very small phone screen. My ageing eyes need something I can see, as well as hear.

Yes, my last dedicated system was TomTom, but although it had Thai maps, it wasn't really designed for Thailand. It 'sort of' worked, but then ceased updates.

I have used a Garmin sat nav for years in Thailand, including getting updated Thai maps, English language.

They may have stopped selling them in Thailand.

Garmin still make an 8" car GPS:https://www.garmin.com/en-AU/p/720310

You could try calling the following, as I have always found them helpful:

Thank you, I will keep that in mind. I am currently testing joelle's suggestion of Waze, which after my first test run looks very promising (even if it did tell me to drive off a bridge  - honestly, not joking. It actually made me laugh when it happened after your post earlier today).
