I think we've already established that I'm a bit of a language snob, but what is it with 'lose' and 'loose'? I must be turning into a grumpy old git, because that error, which I see so often everywhere, genuinely makes me want to bang my head on the desk.

Not new but still find it fascinating.
Take a look at this paragraph. Can you read what it says? All the letters have been jumbled (mixed). Only the first and last letter of ecah word is in the right place:

^^ This probably works for other languages using a Roman-ish alphabet. It may help us read English very quickly. I don't think it would work for languages like Thai though. Certainly doesn't work with Thai for me which I still read to slowly for subtitles on movies.

Yes, that's the trick of speed reading novels, which I could do when younger. I'd place a finger in the middle of the page, moving it down slowly and casting eyes quickly left and right. You do miss some depth of good writing, and I don't think it's recommended for text books and technical manuals.
