My fave local ice cream is the lady with the cart just up past Gee and Tung on Chomsin opposite 7/11. Her big paper bowls filled with at least half a dozen scoops and all the extras, beat anything out of a convenience store freezer hands down.

I did try the magnolia durian ice lolly. It was OK but not as flavourful as the old shopping mall tub. But for only 10.50 baht vs 35 baht, no complaints.

They have 19 baht durian lollies at Golden Place along with a bunch of interesting flavours (such as sala) but I have not had chance to do a comparison yet.

Is there a freezer full of lollipops and cones in shopping mall? And in Tops too?

At the back of Tops on the left there are a couple of freezers full of small tubs of ice cream and cones etc.

There's a freezer in shopping mall. Other than the durian ice cream I didn't notice what other ice cream was in it.

Thank you guys.
Tops used to stock Old White House coffee from Ipoh, but I stopped going once they discontinued that. Still, it will be interesting to see if they have a bunch of unusual ices as well.

As for Shopping Mall, the lap dogs would always recognise me and come for some fuss, but the owner always acted like I did not exist, so I stopped patronising that place too.

" There's a freezer in shopping mall."

Thank you so much for the heads up. That cabinet is a real treasure trove and is filled with all kinds of Ete fruit lollies. I managed to pull out an ultra-rare Thai Pumpkin Custard (Sankaya Faktong- สังขยาฟักทอง) example. I cannot even find a picture on the internet for this one. Pumpkin Custard is my second favourite Thai dessert of all time, and so I was very happy to find this. Tasted a lot like peanut butter but plenty of pumpkin chips in the centre too.

I also discovered that they have a dedicated Lotte cabinet over in Tops, where they stock Peperos and Ghanas. Having spent so much time in Seoul, I have the same soft spot for Lotte that I do for Littlewoods.

Last night, I was tempted by a 10 baht Nestle Orange Jelly Yogurt popsicle, which has that lovely Yakult flavour, something else I first experienced in Myong Dong, but I will definitely be back to sample the Peperos.

Top 20 of the Magnums and the substitutes available across Asia (well the bits I've been to anyway) and where to find them.

Last night, I found most amazing salaca, sweet gourd and passion fruit lolly in the freezer at Golden Place. After the overpowering sweetness of Lotte, Glico and Nestle, this was much more fruity. The tanginess was so good, I started looking round nervously for a big fat orange bloke and a camera crew.

Their rainbow brand lollies are only 19 baht and so I am now looking forward to trying the mango and pineapple flavours.

I was down at Lotus's Pranburi today, and they had FIVE freezers full of ice cream, including one full of Pilot products, which you do not see all that often.
I was looking for the new Walls Cheese Ice Cream, but found a double salted egg ice cream, which was just as delicious. It is great to see Thais getting into these savoury flavours.

Am I right in thinking that there is an element of coconut in that?
