FB Brand Car Battery

I have a Honda purchased new in August 2021
The battery an FB Brand has failed today
anyone heard of this brand ?
is it crap, ok, or a better make
one and a half years is a pretty ordinary life.

Knowing Honda's excellent record in Thailand, I'd be very surprised if it was a sub-standard brand.

It's a mainstream brand, from Japan originally, I've never had a problem with them.

It is a local brand, they have a factory making them quite near Saraburi. Okay quality for that price but not something I would personally use if I had a choice. Sorry, but a bit of a snob when it comes to things like this.

I’m sure we all have our favourite brands for many things, but if you’re buying a brand new car and it comes with the battery already fitted, there’s not a lot of choice!! I’m sure the OP having experienced a duff FB battery, will look for a different make this time!!

Sadly, car batteries in Thailand only come with a one-year warrantee. They seem to last up to two years then die. Kind of a surprise when I could purchase a 6-year warrantee battery in the US for my cars there.

It depends on the type of battery. Most unsealed lead acid batteries come with that kind of warranty as they are not built to last. It's the heat that kills the batteries. When I had the Saab the battery location was less than ideal (at least for the tropics) as it was in the engine bay right next to the turbo. Even the best sealed batteries lasted just over a year, so I would get a silver calcium sealed battery (which came with an 18 month guarantee), they would fail within the guarantee period, I would make a claim, and so get much longer life for a fixed cost. Mind you, they are not cheap, but still worth it.

Typically in the tropics, 2-3 years before you stand the risk of a no-start situation.

If you drive an auto, get a jump start battery just in case. I have jumper cables and 70mai jump starter pack in my car all the time.

As you have a current modern car, the charging system is more than likely via an ECU, rather than an inbuilt regulator on the alternator. It needs to be checked, as just blaming the battery may not be the problem. Under charging will kill a battery just as much as over charging, but over charging is more likely to cook it.

When replacing a battery with an ECU control, the ECU will take time to "learn" the characteristics of a replacement, so should be checked after a few days use.

Short running is also a big problem with most batteries, but may not be a consideration depending on your daily use.

The last car I sold was a five year old Mitsubishi Pajero Sport that still had its original battery - maybe I was lucky? My current car (an MGHS PHEV) is just over 2 years old and still on the original battery (I don’t know how much demand the 12v battery gets on the basis that I normally drive in EV mode).
