Paying car tax

Post by berlinmichael »

I need to renew my car tax before the end of January which is something I haven't done before. Can someone tell me which documents I need to take with me? Also is it possible to pay at the Bluport office where I do my 90 day immigration check?
Thanks in advance

Car tax has nothing to do with immigration so you'll need to go to the transport office (DLT) to pay it. You only need the registration book but may need a physical check if the car is older than five years. An easier option is to let one of the govt vehicle insurance service providers or garages in Hua Hin do it for you for a small fee. Maybe someone else can advise where they are.

As far as I’m aware, all you need is the vehicle registration book.

You only need the blue book. Very basic test done if the car is more than 7 years old (5 mins)

I've always done mine at KC garage under the fly-over. Never a queue so pretty quick in and out. You are given a date when to pick up your tax disc, usually 3 - 4 days. You are given a slip to show proof of 'tax in the post' which is acceptable should you need it for the police.

The car tax office in Hua Hin is opposite the back side of Market Village (on the other side of the railway). There is a big purple sign outside.

Nobody has mentioned the Tor Ror Bor compusory insurance. Without a certificate you will not be able to renew it.

There are abundant places now in HH to pay your car tax. Compulsory Insurance provided if you don't have. Just look for the sign as pictured. ( HH Tels favoured place).

That is provided by the DLT automatically when you renew your road tax. If you already have car insurance, the your insurance company would have provided you with a certificate to present when renewing your tax. This will negate the need for the DLT to provide it.

I think you may be confusing it with an agency. Where you are describing gives a service the same as KC mentioned. i.e. they will inspect the vehicle, if necessary, take the fee and the paperwork. They will take it to Pranburi. Any of these agents will save you the trip. I've always used KC and never had cause to complain.

Not sure where you get that from HHTel, but it is NOT the case!
SOME insurance companies, in fact most of them, will provide a policy. For me It is better to get it at the place doing the inspection, as then the date will not be out of step with any car insurance that you have, plus those small stations get the commision. Plus, you are assuming that he has other insurance!

The OP asked how to do it, so he should be advised accordingly!

I've been doing mine through KC for years. CMI can and is supplied by the DLT if you have no other insurance to 'exempt' it.
Compulsory Motor Insurance (CMI) Coverage is fairly limited and may not fully protect you. You can purchase CMI from the local Department of Land Transport Office (DLT), from car insurance companies and from brokers.
KC will always ask if you have insurance. If not then it's provided by the DLT. There is no paperwork involved as simply having a tax 'disc' shows you have insurance.
Compulsory (CTPL): a compulsory policy issued by the Thai government which every vehicle in Thailand must have in place. The CTPL only covers bodily injury and death (and for relatively low amounts) and property damage is not covered. Where this Policy is mandatory in Thailand the vehicle insurance options below are voluntary and therefore an addition to the CTPL.

/\ 100%. I get my CMI from whatever agent I chose to to renew. Been doing it for years. No need for Caps. Nereus, you're quite incorrect on this occasion!!!

It has NOTHING to do with DLT!
Yes, the agent that does the inspection will ask if you have insurance, and if you don't know what the proceedure is you may well think that they are asking if you have accident insurance, not Tor Ror Bor.
Look at the policy; where does it is say issued by the DLT? There are many different companys supplying compulsory insurance, not ONE of them is from the DLT.
It also has NOTHING to do with damage to either your car, OR any other property. It is compulsory to cover injury to other people.

I go to a drive through station in Bangkok that does thousands every day, if they had to write out a policy for every car fronting up there very few would get renewed.

Mr sateeb; in is none of your business how many CAPITALS I use!

If I could be arsed I would show you my insurance policy without CMI and then if I was further arsed I would show the blue book with the CMI stapled to the back with the CMI issued by the testing station.
Point is I can't really be arsed dealing with idiots..see below.
