Not before time. I was amazed how he was surrounding himself by police to protect him, when he was the law breaker.

Re: PM Suspended
It’s only a temporary suspension of up to one month - there’s no guarantee that they won’t rule in his favour after the review.

Re: PM Suspended
The question is, did his term start before or after the constitution was written?
if it's before, he's gone, if after, he's still the PM.
(That's also the abbreviation for Post Mortem.)

Re: PM Suspended
7 of the 9 members of the constitutional Court were directly appointed by the Junta or the 250 strong senate, who were hand selected by the junta. Everything they have been asked to rule on so far, has found in favour of the junta or individuals within the Junta (Prayut over his housing, the incomplete oath and so on). Based on that, I think today is just the start of a process that must have the backing of at least some of those in power.
For a start, simply by not accepting the petition would have left the Court open to ridicule, probably leading to numerous protests and who knows what. So this decision stops that. Then there is the question of being suspended in real terms or in name only. Lets see if Prayet takes a holiday.
Whatever, many claim Prayet is only the front person for others. Maybe they see this as an opportunity to get rid of him because of his deep unpopularity.
Watch this space.

And right on cue, here is The Asia Times article / view on the suspension:
Suspended Prayut down but not yet out in Thailand
Thai leader suspended on opposition’s legal challenge but ruling may signal establishment elites want a new top candidate at next election

If Thaksin were to be brought back, there would be absolute chaos.caller wrote: ↑Wed Aug 24, 2022 9:09 pm And right on cue, here is The Asia Times article / view on the suspension:

Re: PM Suspended
I realize that's the question the court will consider, but is that really the question? The purpose of that section of the constitution is to prevent any PM from serving for too long. Unfortunately, Thais tend to get caught up in details and technicalities. So, as expected, the public debate has been all about what date to use to calculate the eight year period rather than whether or not the PM been PM for eight years, by whatever means.handdrummer wrote: ↑Wed Aug 24, 2022 7:05 pm The question is, did his term start before or after the constitution was written?

I suspect the court will be unable to see the forest for all the trees and rule in Prayut's favor.

Being that the court is packed with his buddies, that's probably a good assumption.Ratsima wrote: ↑Thu Aug 25, 2022 6:33 amI realize that's the question the court will consider, but is that really the question? But tit and one can never tell who's been paid how much to do whatever.
