Big Boy wrote: Mon Mar 06, 2023 10:35 pm Actually, I was reminiscing with somebody earlier today, and we agreed that Covid was not at all bad. Especially now we're at the arse end of what has been quite a hectic high season, it'll be lovely to see everybody go home. Simple things like driving on empty roads, not worrying about if I'll be able to park when I get somewhere and not worrying about whether I'll get a table when I go for breakfast. The simple things in life that were never a problem during Covid have been a nightmare for about 4 months now.

I think I've said before, I enjoyed it all too! Very much so. I'm a massive introvert so, staying away from people and people staying away from me... perfect.

This doesn't make the wrongs of the whole thing any less wrong, mind. And I'd like to think if I was in that funeral I'd have told that chap where to go rather than following some utterly ridiculous, bizarre and unscientific rules.

One inquisitive mind might ask in the future, 'How bad did the mass psychosis really get during covid?'

They should be presented with clips of 'The Cuddle Curtain' made popular by one Phillip Schofield and one Holly Willoughby during a morning TV show.

Me again. :D

Sorry my use of emoji was not appropriate in that last post nor was the tone of the post. Watching it again it's just incredibly sad what people thought they had to do in order to hug their elderly parents. I'm not a covid denier, far from it. People died, people got long covid, people suffered. The restrictions, lockdowns, school closures, vaccines for children/physically fit...

All that was wrong. Horribly wrong. And the data is beginning to prove that.

Clearly mistakes were made when trying to deal with something that nobody had prior experience of, so people were being ultra (maybe too) cautious, but you can’t get away from the fact that at the height of the pandemic before vaccines were being rolled out, significant numbers were dying on a daily basis

Well, whatever the rights and wrongs of how it was dealt with, the question asked in the thread title appears to have been answered...
This is the way

:agree:

Any article that starts, "Did" just tells me they know nothing. I didn't have to read any further.

Is/Was it as serious as the world powers would have you believe? Debatable.

The only benefit of all the lockdowns, school closures, gross infringements of personal liberty that occurred is that no one will obey or comply again. At least not here in the UK.

I am a libertarian of sorts and am sceptical of big government. Small is beautiful!

The question was, and remains unanswered, on what basis do you think that "no one" in the UK would comply with any future lockdown mandates?

I think that most of us can see that the UK’s response was a mistake.
Would you conform to a ‘stay at home’ mandate again? I wouldn’t and no one I know would.
Would you?

I'd be totally fine with a stay at home mandate again simply due to it being ideal for a social-anxiety swamped, awkward introvert. :D

What I would be very skeptical about now, should such a situation arise again, is school closures or injections of a rushed vaccine on children. In this instance, both were completely unnecessary. I'm particularly angry about the school closures as it's caused significant harm. The vaccines, aside from those children with adverse reactions, we won't know for a while.
