Bangkok’s open-air film festival, Krung Thep Klang Plang, which means Bangkok open-air theatres, rolls out the red carpet for the whole month of July.

The open-air theaters will be held at a number of different locations throughout the city, and the first event kicks off on July 7 at Laan Kon Mueng space in front of the Bangkok City Hall, near the Giant Swing.

The festival is a collaboration between the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Thai Film Director Association, Thai Open-air Theatre Association, Thai Film Archive, and Better Bangkok.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt yesterday announced that he hoped the event would bring happiness and smiles to the people of Bangkok, just like the ongoing garden festival in various public parks and spaces in Bangkok.

Deputy Bangkok Governor, Sanon Wwangsangboon, said the open-air film festival will boost the economy and the Thai movie industry and says there is more to come for movie buffs, adding that every embassy in the city is playing host to the Bangkok World Film festival in November.

The President of the Thai Film Director Association, Anucha Boonyawattana, says the films shown span from 1959 – 2020 in various genres. Each movie was picked to match each location. He added that watching movies not only gives people entertainment but provides interesting lessons in life.
