Sky News blocked in Thailand?

Post by Big Boy »

I'm getting messages through several devices that Sky News is not available in Thailand today. It works fine with a VPN, but have we been zapped from regular news?

Temporary glitch or deliberate action?

I'm hoping it's a temporary glitch. Potential censorship at it's worst.

Sky News TV Live

Post by Groodman »

I have been watching online Sky News TV Live in Thailand for over 4 years. Today I received this message
'Video unavailable - The uploader has not made this video available in your country"
Does anyone know why the service has been blocked. Can anyone suggest a work round or will i have to get a VPN to continuing viewing

It is highly likely that YouTube is doing the censoring, not Sky News itself. YT blocked Sky in Australia last year over Covid misinformation.

A VPN is the answer - I personally don't go online without one these days.

This isn't the first time Sky News has been unavailable. It's happened before with the identical problem people are seeing today. In the past it came back on air as normal.
I'm not sure if this is 'Thai Censorship' or a separate problem.

A post from 4 years ago:

"This morning clicked on to SKY news, and up pops,

"The uploader has not made this video available in your country"

I had to use a VPN to watch it,more censorship ?.is it working for

anyone else without VPN ?"

This is extremely odd. I have various devices including an Android tablet and phone, plus two Mi TV devices (a box and a stick/dongle).

On all the devices except the Mi TV box, Sky News Live is now geo-blocked but on that one box, it still works fine. I do not have a VPN running on the Mi TV box (or dongle either, for that matter).

I've tried replicating all the settings from my box on the dongle, but with no success.

Just checked on Reddit - users from all around the world (including Canada, Malta and South Korea) are reporting the same thing.

Can't figure out why it's still working on the Mi TV box, though.

Sky News Live appears to have disappeared from YouTube on my TV (no VPN).

Also appears blocked on their main website when using a VPN: https://news.sky.com/story/watch-sky-news-live-10315632

Been watching France 24 which has good coverage of the war.

I was watching it up to 10 minutes ago via VPN (London) with no problem. It did go down on the Singapore VPN server for a while a few days ago, but generally, I think all is well at the moment.

I've just tested it before posting (VPN via Singapore), and it is fine.
